...distinct enough to shine through all kinds of studio interference and through the collective process.” Auteur is a french word meaning ‘ Author’ Arising in France in the late 1940s, the auteur theory it was dubbed by the American film critic Andrew Sarris was an outgrowth of the cinematic theories. The features of being an auteur include; 1 having a recognizable style, 2 repeatedly returning to the same subject mater, 3 habitually address a particular psychological or moral theme, 4 employ a reoccurring visual and aesthetic style, 5 constantly work with the same actors or cinametogarphers or editors…ect , or demonstrate any combination of the above. Steven Spielberg is an auteur and today I am going to prove it. I will show you through his use of themes, subject matter, visual style, Collaborations, and Institutions. Steven Allan Spielberg was born to parents Arnold and Leahanni Spielberg. The older brother to three younger sisters, Spielberg began experimenting with film in his early teens making movies he would show at his family house. At 13, Spielberg was already showing glimpses of future greatness, even winning a prize for his 40-minute war film 'Escape to Nowhere'. The family often moved with his father's job and it was at Arcadia High School in Phoenix, Arizona that he produced his first feature-length film, 'Firelight', a science fiction movie with a budget of $400. Foreshadowing his future success, the film turned a tidy $100 profit after it was shown at a local...

Then, something pulls under. The next day, parts of her are found on the shore. Because of this, the beaches are now closed. Trying to cover up that the death occurred by a shark attack in order to prevent fear, they say it was a boat accident. However, another fatal shark attack occurs shortly after. Meanwhile, consulting oceanographer Matt Hooper examines Watkins' remains and confirms her death was from a shark attack. Then, local fishermen catch a large tiger shark, the mayor proclaims the beaches safe. Hooper and Brody find a half-sunken vessel while searching the night waters in Hooper's boat. Underwater,...

...Introduction 14 year old Steven Truscott gave his classmate Lynne Harper a ride on his bicycle on June 9, 1959. Truscott had dropped her off before they parted ways. Lynne was reported missing later that night, and two days later, her body was found on a nearby farm. She was sexually assaulted and strangled to death. The community was horrified by what happened to this young girl and everyone was determined to find the killer. Immediately, investigators became fixated on Truscott as the prime suspect since he was the last person to see Lynne. They didn’t consider any other suspects, even though there was no physical evidence linking him to the murder. He was arrested 24 hours later, and stood trial as an adult. (Steven Truscott | Murderpedia). The entire case was based on circumstantial evidence, and Truscott was found guilty and became the youngest person in Canada to be sentenced to death at the age of 14. The Crown’s theory was that Truscott committed the murder sometime between 7:15 and 7:45PM. The theory was supported by conflicting testimonies from child witnesses, testimony from the pathologist, Dr. John Penistan, and evidence on Truscott’s body (Harland-Logan). Four months after his conviction, Truscott’s sentence got commuted to life in prison. After spending 10 years in prison, Truscott was paroled in 1969, where he began a new life under a new name and started a family. This never changed the fact that Truscott had lost many of the good years of his life. Throughout...

...Chances are you’ve heard of Steven Spielberg, famous director of popular movies such as “E.T the Extraterrestrial” and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”. Steven Spielberg is amidst the richest people in Hollywood with an annual income of around $1 million, and his net worth in 2014 was around $3 billion. In Cincinnati, Ohio, on December 18 1946, Steven Spielberg was born, the only son in a family of four. Stevens’s passion for directing and producing films started at a young age, as a kid he would make amateur films of special family events using the family camera. Steven wanted to do bigger and better things, although this got boring and he started to make fictional movies (a movie that told a story), and even took shots from different...

...Logan Stafford Johnny Bragg Interpersonal Communication 7 October 2013 We're Going To Need a Bigger Park For this paper, I chose Steven Spielberg, and chose the movies; Jurassic Park, and Jaws. The movies are very different, but they are very similar in their own way. The beginning of both movies are actually extremely similar. In the opening of Jaws, we see nothing, but ultimately the music starts playing, and to start things off, the girl (not sure if she had a name) was killed by Jaws to open up the film. However, Jurassic Park started off with pretty much the same thing. We couldn't see the raptor that they were trying to put in the holding fence, but we did see one of the park employee's get dragged into the cage with the raptor. That is what gave me the idea to write this on similarities. Both movies result in the deaths of five people by a(n) animal(s), I found that kind of interesting. Both Jaws and Jurassic Park use the element of surprise and suspension, because you don't always see the creatures, but you know that they are there. Both movies were huge successes and the special effects were revolutionary for their times. For the characters, I'm not comparing their personalities, just the roles they played in their movie. Martin Brody, the main character in Jaws, and Dr. Ian Malcolm, from Jurassic Park, are both characters that warn what is going to happen in the film, but are ignored and eventually proven right. John Hammond, the man behind the cloning of dinosaurs...

...To whom it may concern, This letter is in regards to Steven Adler. Steven is a great leader, mentor and family member and has been such since I could remember. Even though Steven is my older cousin I have always looked up to him. Weather it was his decisions in life or how he handles different situations, it was always with calm and ease. Steven has always come across in a very respectful way with himself and with others. He was influential and mentored me through out my life, by being a positive influence and giving me outstanding advice in life. Steven helped me in the process of entering the Marine Corps after I graduated from high school. After serving two tours in Iraq and as soon as I came back, he was once again there for me. He helped me get back into civilian mode and also motivated me to get myself into college. Looking back he has never asked for anything in return, I guess its his unselfishness and personality just to help others. Steven takes a lot of pride in being a father. I have been there to help him move from place to place. On one occasion we started putting together his daughters Isabella’s crib. Were we’ve had talks about how important it is to start a family, and with those chats I’ve learned that he loves, cares and would do anything for his family and daughter. All in all Steven is a great person, friend, and father! Sincerely, John Smith March 17th,...

...Steven Spielberg Neelou Goodarzi (HCC student and MovieMaker Club member) In promoting his new spy thriller Bridge of Spies, Steven Spielberg participated in a conference call interview with college students from around the country. Bridge of Spies is based on the true story of insurance lawyer James Donovan, and how he negotiated a spy swap between the United States and the USSR during the Cold War. It stars Tom Hanks as Donovan, Mark Rylance as Abel and as Austin Stowall as Powers. They say a picture paints a thousand words, but this film paints a million. At times, the dialogue was sparse — almost nonexistent. Yet, everything that needed to be said, was said. Through brilliant directing and creative vision from — among others — Steven...

...Throughout reading “Freakonomics” by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, I found it astounding that there are so many unthinkable outcomes for something uncorrelated. If I had to guess how in the world did crime rates drop, legalization of abortion would not have made it even close to anywhere on my list (Page 137). Through the warped lens of Freakonomics, the world that I see it gives off a different message. One item in regards was Discovery High School. Was Discovery High School really built to help alleviate the flow of students from surrounding areas? Could it have been just another proposition to try and make a new school superior to others or was a just a coincidence that Discovery High School just happens to try and offer the best...

...Economist Steven D Levitt, in his book Freakonomics, published in 2005, addresses the topic of incentives, decision-making, and parenting, and challenges readers to think critically about what goes on in the world around them while applying tools of economics to their lives. Levitt supports his argument by showing examples of real life incentives, such as schoolteachers making their classes look better, or sumo wrestlers purposely blowing matches for bribes, and even financial incentives, such as making parents pay a fine for every minute they were late picking their kids up from day care. His purpose is to make readers understand that things aren't always what they seem like. For instance, your parents might tell you that watching TV can have...

...Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One” is a busy sci-fi adventure punctuated by dark atmospheres and cathartic agitation in the form of wild action sequences filled with flashy, rowdy, and usually tiresome battles. The script, co-penned by Zac Penn and Ernest Cline, was based on the latter's 2011 novel of the same name. Despite the intelligent story, which alerts for current concerns about the addictive power of the ‘unreal’ world of the Internet and video games, the film’s visuals are hyper-saturated, assaulting our brain with the same uncontrolled trepidation as when you loop vertically in a rollercoaster. Set in 2045, the story follows Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan), an 18-year-old from Columbus, Ohio, who lives fascinated with an immersive virtual world called The Oasis, where he is one of the many compulsive players. As a place of the imagination, the Oasis allows you to be who you want to be, do anything, and go anywhere under the guise of an avatar. That way, you can feel every emotion of the experience while escaping from the desolation of the planet....

...Y es, you read that right Steven Spielberg the man who won 3 Oscars, and had had major successes include Jaws, E.T, Jurassic Park and saving private Ryan, was actually struggling in school. Steven Spielberg is a great example of resilience and is one of the best role models for people of all ages. Spielberg was a self-confessed geek who dreamed through most of his school years and was mostly disconnected from his classmate’s due in part to having dyslexia, his family moving three times and because Steven was one of a small amount of Jewish children at the schools he attended, he was bullied and even abused by his peers, furthermore being fascinated with films and cameras did not help him because it was such an unusual thing at his age....
