The organizational change that was examined over the course of this study was one connected to the request by York County SC community members. They wanted assistance in eradicating the high dropout rate. After reports from the SC Department of Education that the dropout rate in York SC was increasing, United Way of York County began to take a harder look at the educational needs of the local residents. This final paper will examine the dynamics of change to include the content, process and context of that change as well as the community reaction toward that change. The first thing I learned was that mom was a high school graduate but my dad had to drop out of school in the ninth grade. Discovering the educational levels of my parents was important to me because I felt their success in life would be the same as mine, all I had to do was get through school, graduating or not and I’d have money, cars, a house and a family. During my earlier years of learning (elementary school), my parents did not review my school work for accuracy, nor were they members of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). My parents had hectic schedules; my dad would leave for work early in the morning and return late in the evening, while my mom would leave for work in the afternoon and return late at night. I didn’t have anyone to check to see if my homework was finished or help me with school work; my parents relied on the school system in order to make that happen. As my educational requirements began to get harder (middle school), my grades started to falter, all I could think about was having fun with my friends. Many states have made laws designed to protect students from being bullied and enabling them to punish students who are guilty of bullying their peers. Different schools have implemented different anti-bullying programs in order to stop bullying within their schools. The Steps to Respect Bully Intervention program and the Safe School Ambassador Program are among the many programs that schools currently use to address the bullying epidemic. Steps to Respect Bully Intervention Program is a school-based bully prevention program developed for grades 3-6. The goal of the program is to decrease school bullying problems by increasing staff awareness and responsiveness, fostering socially responsible beliefs, and teaching social-emotional skills to counter bullying and promote healthy relationships.
