Which Is the Better Dog Food? The commercial dog food industry has been in existence for almost one hundred and fifty years. It affords a convenience to pet owners where by they only need to scoop out dry kibble in a bowl or open a can of pet food, without any additional food or supplement, pet owners do not know what ingredients are being used in the food. Many have relied on the dog food industry to use quality products in manufacturing their food. However, to their surprise, in some cases at the demise of pets this has not been the case. In light of all the pet food recalls since 1995 and more recently in March 2007, where Menu Foods recalled more 100 brands including Iams, Eukanuba, Hill’s Science Diet, Purina Mighty Dog and many store brands including Wal-Mart. Owners have began to take a more proactive approach as to learn what ingredients are in the product, by reading and understanding the label on the packaging and making a educated choice between the slew of brands whether it be dry kibble or canned food. Some owners are scrapping commercial dog foods all together and feeding their pet a homemade diet. These owners are convinced that the dogs health fare much better on these types of diets because before the existence of commercial dog foods pets ate what people consumed in the form of leftovers or table scraps or if they were in the wild they hunted their own food that provided the pet with natural protein and nutrients found in raw meat and plants and had no adverse results from the diet. Other reason as to why owners have change to this type of diet is that they can control what goes in the food, they know that the food is fresh, wholesome and that it has no chemical preservatives, dyes or other additives that may be harmful for their pet. It produces fewer stools, reduces arthritis and manages their weight better. According to

The Hound Of The Baskerville

...The Hound of the Baskervilles is a killer. There is a lot of evidence to support this in the book. First of all, the dog breed is a mixture between a bloodhound and a mastiff. These types of dogs are known to be very loyal to their masters, and because Stapleton was its master, then it would kill people without a second thought. These dogs also have an excellent sense of smell, and they are commonly used as guard dogs. Stapleton used this to his advantage, and he made his dog smell the clothes of his victims and then track them down and kill them. Furthermore, Sherlock Holmes mentioned in the last chapter of the book where the dog was bought. He said that Stapleton bought it at a store called Ross and Mangles, and that the dog was “The...

Consumer Is King

...were finished. This development provokes all sorts of laments. Family togetherness is getting short shrift. Commercialism has become an epidemic. The urge to buy has trampled more wholesome traditions. The critics may be right. But what is most obvious in the expanding store hours is an item of good news: In America, the consumer is king. This has not always been true. Producers once reigned supreme. When I took economics in college in the 1970s, my instructors continually highlighted the danger of large firms that could restrict production to keep prices unreasonably high. This was often taken as proof of the need for strict government regulation. Monopolies and oligopolies were seen as a constant threat, and with some reason. In one major industry after another—cars, steel, oil, telecommunications, computers—there were only a few relevant firms, and they divided up growing markets without much fear of competition. Fifty years ago, when you needed a car, you could choose from General Motors, Ford, Chrysler and American Motors, and that was about it. Steel? A handful of producers, almost all of them American. For most goods, consumers had only a few options—and limited information about those. If they bought a radio or a pair of pants that proved unsatisfactory, they were often stuck. Sellers had the upper hand. But no more. Consumers can choose from a dizzying array of options and prices. "If you want to see product differentiation in action, go to PetSmart," advises George...

Puppy Mill Research Paper

...The unaware person may never know how many puppies are dying in puppy mills. Millions of dogs are bred and crammed together, and millions more are shot or drowned every year. These puppy mills are buildings where dogs are kept in inhumane conditions, packed together by the hundreds, with no good food or water. They pass as ordinary breeders who sell puppies to pet stores, and the unlucky person who purchases the sick dog may have it die on them, or it will live in fear and anxiety (ASPCA). With the many problems they bring upon society, people can stop puppy mills by taking a stand in their community, donating to foundations, and making adoption the first option. Background information In this case, puppy mills are keeping dogs in inhuman conditions. Puppy mills are crowded, have almost no food or water, and give little-to-no veterinary care. These dogs are susceptible to blood and respiratory disorders, and multiple behavior problems (ASPCA). To emphasize, people do not know these dogs are being treated terribly, and they continue to let breeders bring living and breathing creatures into these areas. To add to that, dogs in puppy mills are...

...SMACKEY DOG FOODS, INC. Smackey Dog Foods, Inc., is a privately owned dog food manufacturing company, which was started by three sisters, Sarah, Kim, and Jillian, in the kitchen of their suburban Chicago home. They started by manufacturing a natural dog food with ingredients they bought from a local grocery store. With increasing sales from the prior year, the sisters opened a boutique division and called it Best Boy Gourmet. Sarah, the president and general manager, has met with a banker to request a loan for $150,000 to expand the facilities and equipment. Mars, Incorporated

...Mars, Incorporated (Chocolate and much more…) Contemporary Business 201160: BUS101-002 Mars, Incorporated is a fascinating company which is so much more than just a candy manufacturer. I was interested in this company because we had purchased stock in the Wrigley Company in 1993 as a gift/investment when my youngest son was born. In 2008, the Wrigley Company was bought by Mars and taken private. Our family had to take a small lost on our shares and no longer received the new development of gum each Christmas. However, it was great move on Wrigley’s behave and for the Mars company as well. Mars is a very diverse organization and does provide a very versatile business plan in this ever changing world and economy. I find it to be an intriguing company and envy it’s progression from a small town at home business to the billion dollar international business it is today. The company began in 1911 by Mr. Frank C. Mars as the Mar-O-Bar Company in his country home kitchen located in Tacoma, Washington. His first products were butter cream candy bars which his family and friends said were the best in the land. He soon outgrew his kitchen when the business started booming and opened his first factory of 125 employees. Quality and value were the foundations for his business and his first mission statement. In 1920, Mr. Mars relocated his factory to Minneapolis, where soon the Snickers (without the chocolate coating) and Milky Way bars were developed and launched....
