The strategy development process used by Malcolm Baldrige award healthcare recipient Mercy Health System successfully incorporates the Leadership Excellence Model into the framework of their organization. This helps to ensure that the company’s vision, mission, strategy, and key issues are implemented by the key figures of the organization. An integral part of their development process also includes producing appropriate plans and measurable goals. These action plans, guidelines, and goals are then passed down and integrated with the objectives of the various senior leaders who lead the extended branches and partnerships of the main organization. Consistent and regular evaluation and review of all strategic implementations that are utilized by each division of the organization identifies any problems or needs, and measures goal achievement and success. Refinements are made accordingly to any processes or initiatives that fail to achieve their projected outcomes and flexibility is key.
The strategy development process used by my previous employer, The Potter’s House Family and Children Treatment Center, incorporates a similar process to that of the Leadership Excellence Model used by Mercy Health System in that the key partners of The Potter’s House also develop and facilitate all strategies and plans to ensure the future and continued success of the organization. The Potter’s House has several divisions that are led by a team of upper management figures who implement the organization’s operating principles, and integrate the values, mission, and vision of the organization into various strategic action plans. The key figures of each division of the Potter’s House strictly adhere to the fundamental principles and vision of the founder of the organization, while strategically planning all goals and strategies.
