Short-term goal: To make French hotels ready to operate in four weeks.
Based on the case study, Brunt hotel decided to expand its business in France. Thus, it acquired a small hotel chain in France. In order to align the new overseas business into its operation, the company sold half of hotels and kept another half. The company needs to prepare sufficient human resources for the hotel business in France, since more than 70% of French employees are estimated to leave the company after the merge. In addition, the time constraint is four weeks only, so once employees are recruited in UK and France, they have to participate in training programs immediately.

Long-term goal: To expand the business to 150 hotels in five years and 300 hotels in 10 years in Europe.
The organization also would like to open 150 hotels in five years and 300 hotels across Europe in 10 years. Thus, to prepare for the future operation, the organization will have to start establishing an international human resources pool. It is believed that incorporating with host partners would allow the company to accelerate its learning curve for entering a new country. More specifically, the company should not only train its British employees to be able to work overseas, but also recruit other European employees into its organization. Since the target market is Europe, it is recommended for the company to recruit employees from different countries in Europe to enrich the pool and train them in both UK and France to become acquainted with organizational operation and culture.

1. Build Strategic Plan: Brunt will decide to use a combination of parent and host country partner to expand its business. Also, Brunt will do job analysis for both current and new employees who are willing to work in France. 2. Implement International Recruitment: It is believed that the company should do internal and

...– 27828 Introduction Economies of scope and synergies in business operations are consequences of diversification strategies. It is possible to classify companies according to the type of diversification strategy selected. Unrelated diversifiers are companies that diversify across industry, while related diversifiers are firms that diversify within the industry (Kim, Hwang and Burgers 1989). Companies pursuing related diversification over a period of time have achieved superior performance than companies following an unrelated diversification (Palepu 1985). Amazon has started its business by selling books and music, soon after it incorporated online auctions for airlines tickets and hotel rooms, computer hardware, pet food and pet accessories, electronic cards, toys and consumer electronics. Whereas Amazon has achieved very high volume of sales and gained important market shares in the book industry, the company has never been profitable.
