...Ocpar, Inc. Proposal Bill Johnson Strayer University April 29, 2012 Statement of Need Ocper, Inc. currently has 20 Windows peer-to-peer client computers which are all connected via coax cabling. The president also indicates that the company plans to double in size over the next two years, but she is leery about drastically altering the computer environment. They have indicated that they will possibly be expanding from 20 to 40 users over the next few years. The president has indicated that she would prefer to hold the costs down thought she has indicated that this upgrade is an investment for the future.. My proposal consists of the following: First of all I have proposed to her that they upgrade their PC’s to an Ethernet network which will add more speed and stability to their network. I have suggested that Ocpar buy a total of (20) twenty Intel Gigabit CT PCI Desktop Network adapters at $31.99 per for a total of $639.80. I am also proposing they upgrade their network to a scalable distributed backbone network centralized around a Cisco Small Business 300 Series Managed Switch SF300-24 (24 ports) at a cost of $224.99. The one large item I am proposing to change their network is the purchase of one (1) Dell PowerEdge T310 Server at $3,643.00. This server will suffice what their work is now but it is also something they can grow into. The PowerEdge T310 includes the following: Hard Drives 500GB 7.2K RPM SATA 3.5in Cabled Hard Drive plus one (1) 1TB 7.2K RPM SATA...

...SNMP Robert Dow CIS 516 Enterprise Network Management Professor Mtshali Strayer University 28 October 2012 Opening Statement In this study we will examine the use of Simple Network Management Protocol and determine its viability within networking fields. The overall question is if we can make devices that speak different computer languages talk on the same interface. I will attempt to prove that through the use of MIB’s, networking devices can communicate through a common network management protocol and effectively relay system specific to a graphical user interface (GUI). This will hopefully display a full load of detailed information about all the devices on the network on one common interface. Network Architecture First, I needed to create a network architecture that would show how the communication channels could be established across operating system languages and through different network devices. In my first test, I decided to create a flat network model using a simple switch interconnecting cross platform computers. This seemed to simple for me, so I decided to add a little more depth. I added a Windows Server system to the mix, controlling authentication, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Domain Name Service (DNS) resolution. For the backbone of the system is procured a Cisco 2900 XL layer 3 switch to connect all the device through. Then I added a Linksys E1200 router to provide World Wide...

...Text Messaging: The Effects on Our Society A Report By: Blake Hogan, Emily Gilbert, Megan Leckington, and Chris Morris 1 Abstract: In today’s day and age, most everyone in our society has and uses a cell phone. Most of those who use cell phones also use the SMS text messaging that these phones feature. This study takes a look at some of the effects and potential problems arising from the use of this text messaging. A survey of students and instructors at Lane Community College found that 70% of those surveyed believed that texting had harmful effects on students writing skills. However, studies that were analyzed found that texting is actually beneficial. While 54% of teenagers text others on a daily basis only 33% of teenagers talk to others face-to-face, yet it is too early in research to draw a conclusion on whether texting is harmful to their social skills. Most people know that text messaging while driving is very dangerous, yet the studies analyzed as well as the surveys conducted show that some people are still willing to take that risk.
