Strengthening Community

...Strengthening Community There are numerous changes that challenge the community to adapt. These can arise from violence at home, and they can follow one person to their school and workplace. Furthermore, new forms of communication, such as social media, when used inappropriately, can negatively affect the community. However, I believe that it is possible for an individual to take action and intervene to help strengthen the community. Strengthening the community can be started at home, advancing to the school, workplace or to any other forms of community like churches and other social groups. Social media which is a powerful communication tool, if positively utilized, can also help strengthen the community. Strengthening a community can be started at home since family is the basic unit of the society. It is where people first learn how to communicate, behave and interact with other people. Parents should be good role models. Children should be properly disciplined, and open communication should be encouraged. These will develop the resiliency among children which will help them adapt to the changing environment. Giving good, positive and peaceful environment to children will also give them the strong foundation that will guide them as they grow to be a mature, responsible individual that is beneficial to the community. Good foundation at home will provide students with high morale and sense of responsibility to create and maintain a peaceful, safe environment. These will result...

Strengthening Marital Intimacy

...A review OF THE BOOK STRENGTHENING MARITAL INTIMACY BY RONALD E. HAWKINS TABLE OF CONTENTS BIBLIOGRAPHIC ENTRY 1 AUTHOR INFORMATION 1 SUMMARY 1 CONCRETE RESPONSES 3 REFLECTION 5 APPLICATION 6 BIBLIOGRAPHY 8 Bibliographical Entry Hawkins, Ronald E. Strengthening marital intimacy. Kearney NE: Morris, 1991. Author Information Ron Hawkins currently serves Liberty University as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Interim Provost. He has decades of experience in both higher education and in Christian counseling, having also served previously as a pastor and professor of counseling. SUMMARY In his book Strengthening Marital Intimacy, Ron Hawkins provides a useful, highly readable, and solidly biblical discussion of the importance of marital intimacy as well as ways for couples to strengthen that intimacy. The book is written for Christian couples aiming to improve their marriage and marital intimacy, though the book is written a notch higher than most mass-market/self-help type books, yet it remains more approachable/engageable than a dry merely academic volume. In presenting his ideas for improved marital intimacy, Hawkins delves deeply into Scripture as both the authority and guide for marriage; implicit in his presentation is that he is writing of traditional biblical marriage, not the more recent loosely defined forms of “marriage” or cohabitation. Hawkins’ initial chapter presents marriage as God’s...

Strengthening the Manufacturing Sector

...Strengthening the manufacturing sector | | For India to become a solid manufacturing hub, we need land for industrial development. | | | Consider the stakes. India, the second largest populous country and the fourth largest economy that accounts for 4.6 percent of the world's gross domestic product, had manufacturing registering only 16 per cent share of its GDP since the 1980s. Nothing could be more expedient than a national manufacturing policy (NMP) – approved recently by the Union cabinet – that targets hiking up the share to 25 per cent by 2022, hoping to build national investment and manufacturing zones (NIMZ) with state-of-the-art facilities. The bottomline would surely be the generation of 100 million jobs over 10 years. India is now one of the top 10 industrial nations of the world with a 1.5 per cent share in manufacturing value added (MVA), according to the International Yearbook of Industrial Statistics 2011 report. Ironically, in 2007, India’s exports were only 1 per cent of the world’s total despite its low labour costs and large population. With the US, Japan and China occupying the top three slots, India ranks 12th (according to Global Insight and the ‘Financial Times’) in the pecking order of manufacturing nations. That manufacturing – rightly considered as the main engine for economic growth and creation of wealth – suffered attention deficit for so long could both be an outcome of misplaced focus and systemic failure. It is more evident from...

Volatile Market In uncertain times, investors prefer to cash over risky financial assets such as stocks. Global sell-off in stocks has increased demand for dollar and led to its appreciation. ...grain size is in line with the curve of the other four points. The amount of proof stress increases with increased cold work, but approaches an asymptote at a point of maximum increase in proof stress. Cold working uses processes such as drawings to deform the grains in a material, thereby increasing the proof stress of the material. 2. (i) Grain size strengthening is a process that reduces the sizes of the grains in a material, typically by annealing. This works to increase the strength of the material through the fact that grain boundaries act as a barrier to dislocations. As can be seen in Figure 1, decrease in grain size causes an increase in proof stress. Cold working involves plastically deforming a material such that dislocations become concentrated. These dislocations then become entangled, hindering further dislocation movement, thereby increasing the strength of the material. As can be seen in Figure 1, proof stress can be increased dramatically by cold work hardening, but only to a point. (ii) Grain size strengthening and cold work hardening can be used together to form a much stronger material. Grain size strengthening reduces the size of grains whilst cold work hardening increases the grain size and decreases ductility. The combination of these two processes cancels the negative effects of each other. B1. Using the Hall-Petch equation: = Calculations: 193.06 ∴ = = 15 + − 15 − 1 + 193.06 110.32 ∴ Equating (1) and (2): 193.06 15 70 × 193.06 − − = = 70 +...

Strengthening Others for Team Excellence

...Strengthening Others for Team Excellence February 25, 2014 Leadership in terms of group dynamics and long-term cohesiveness is a constantly shifting, evolving, and devolving situation. In some situations, a leader will better serve their team by reserving their proactive side in favor of a more passive reactive approach. In other tasks, a leader may best serve their team by diving into a team effort proactively or interactively. “The leader has a special responsibility for functioning in a manner that will help the group achieve effectiveness” (Northouse, 2012, p.290). Modern leadership will likely require a prospective leader to outline each task or expectation individually in order to maximize the effectiveness of every team member in relation to their personal strengths or weaknesses in a given area. A successful leader will likely need to identify the “complementary concepts and practices” that will lead to group advancement. I believe the word complementary is perfect for defining the most desirable role of the modern leader. The word complementary is defined as “combining in such a way as to enhance or emphasize the qualities of each other or another.” ("Complementary," n.d.). Leaders of the past were expected to deeply govern the schedules and expectations of each employee from a micro managerial perch. Leaders today are expected to develop employees both individually and collectively from multiple perspectives ranging from professional to personal...

Skill Up - Strengthening the Foundation

...SKILL UP …strengthening the foundation … together we can & we will make the difference JUNE, 2016 TIKSNA MISSION TRUST Mumbai 2016 Created, 02/02/2015 Refined, 15/06/2016 1|Page Preface Make in India – a major new national program designed to facilitate investment, faster innovation, “Enhance Skill Development”, protect intellectual property & build best-in-class manufacturing infrastructure. Skill development in India is the call of this hour. Among the developing countries of the world, India has the highest potential to meet the skill gap with its large, young, English speaking population. The world shortage of skilled manpower will stand at approximately 56.5 million by 2020. With a target of skilling 500mn by 2020, India can not only fulfil its own requirements but can also cater to the labor shortages in other countries such as the U.S., France and Germany. Presently 80% of the workforce in India (both rural and urban) does not possess any identifiable or marketable skills$. Therefore, bridging this gap (through the various skill development initiatives) could make India the global hub for skilled manpower, and also result in a surplus of skilled manpower of approximately 47 million by 2020. Currently a major proportion of this population is not productively engaged in economic activities due to a ‘skills v/s jobs requirement’ mismatch. There are many skill development programs running to upskill but the kind of success is miniscule...

Strengthening Or Disciplining Women's Peace Activism Analysis

...Sophie Richter Devroe: UNSCR1325 in Palestine: Strengthening or Disciplining Women’s Peace Activism? This article by Sophie shed lights on the weakness of 1325 in advancing women participation in the peace and security agenda. Though the article exposes some weakness of 1325, it is also important to situate her arguments within the specific conflict context. The Palestinian-Israeli conflict by many standards is very complex and deviates from “conventional conflicts”. It has different and contradictory history and facts. It is a conflict that seems to be occurring in two separate territories and yet it is difficult to see a clear distinction of the territories. This makes the conflict quite unique. Yes, the lived experiences of Palestinian women differs from Israeli women, and they also hold diverging political positions. But the crucial question remains whether the women (IWC) are uniting to ensure the end of about a 60-year-old conflict or is it about judging or debating the merits of the conflict? Whiles admitting the challenges in 1325, primarily, the IWC failed because of certain weaknesses in the commission itself but not necessarily due to the “flaws” in 1325....

Creating and Strengthening Organizational Culture: the Experience of Digi Malaysia

...organizational culture is commonly defined as a set of beliefs, values and assumptions that are shared by members of an organization (Schein, 1985). In both personal and organizational level, it is believed that organizational culture provides a competitive advantage and has a considerable effect in developing employee–manager relationship. The influence of organizational culture on organizational performance has been proven in many studies. For example, a number of researchers (e.g., Paparone, 2003; Smith and Shilbury, 2004; Ezirim et al., 2010) have addressed the significant roles of creating, managing, and changing organizational culture for the purpose of increasing overall organizational effectiveness and performance. Hence, creating and strengthening of organization culture of a company is a very important process in ensuring company continual success.
