So when it comes to writing, it is something I have practiced over the years. However, most of my writing I've done has been in a professional setting, such as work. Types of writing I have done include: filling out reports, financial statements, lesson plans, e-mails, meeting reports/notes, fax reports, translations, and memos. Strengths include knowing what I need to write about and how to go about doing that. However, my weaknesses in writing are trying to stay focused and get my point a-crossed effectively. I speak three languages fluently and am currently learning another. So, sometimes when I write, I get a little confused with grammar and get my grammar mixed up with another language. Even though English is my first language, knowing

My Writing Strength

...In my writing career, I have developed many strengths that I have carried throughout my college journey. These strengths include an awareness of which style of writing is appropriate, limiting ambiguous language in my writing, and not fluffing up my writing but rather getting down to the point. On the other hand, I also have weaknesses as a writer that I am continuing to work on. During the past when handed back academic assignments, a major percentage of the comments relate to run-on sentences, switching from past verse present, and confusing sentences. These comments are very necessary and helpful to me as a writer because I am able to realize what I need to work on. This is especially relevant when I am seeing the same criticism constantly,...

My Personal Strengths and Weaknesses

...My Personal Strengths and Weaknesses GEN 195 September 24, 2013 Louise Gerdes My Personal Strength and Weaknesses The most common thing employees will ask a potential employee in an interview is “What are some of your common strengths and weaknesses?” I despise this question simply because thinking about my strengths and weaknesses is not something I randomly stop and think about too often. However, that challenge was brought up in my GEN 195 class at the University of Phoenix. The only difference was that I was provided the proper resources/surveys to help me accurately recognize what some of my strengths and some of my weaknesses are. It ultimately came down to that even though my strength is organization, I struggle with writing and procrastination, so I will have to develop a set of skills in order to advance in these two areas. In order to succeed in my college career and take the next step toward my career choice of criminal justice, I know I will have to work on one of my weaknesses, which is writing. I know that writing is stressed to be important in my career choice, so taking a workshop to improve my writing skills will help me in the future. Nevertheless, I know that my academic writing will differ from the writing I will be expected to do in my career choice, so it would help me significantly if I took the time to re-read Chapter 10 and Chapter 11 of Your College Experience: Strategies of Success. I can both improve my chances of...

Motivation

...gives strength to an individual to push through any obstacle he/she may face during an occurring event. Without having any type of motivation a person will be very discouraged and will not attempt to fulfill any goals they set for themselves. To attend college a student has to be highly motivated especially dealing with heavy loads of assignments that he/she has to face in order to complete a class to graduate and be successful in the future. For example, a student can set up a success plan such as academic goals to ensure having a certain G.P.A and maintaining it throughout the school year. By doing this he/she has to be motivated to get good grades in assignments, quizzes, and tests. As for me, becoming a better writer means to have my point clear enough so that a reader can comprehend what is written. In order for me to become a better writer motivation is important in order to improve my weaknesses. My main weaknesses in writing are making sure my sentence structure is correct and putting my thoughts together so that they flow. Having motivation to improve will help me look at my sentences and take a step back so that I can make sure they are right. Also, so I can see where my mistakes are being made. It will also help me to do brainstorming exercise when writing papers so that I can make sure my thoughts are executed on paper as well as they are in my head. The first step in becoming a better writer is knowing what needs work and understanding that even our strengths can...

Writing Inventory

...Memorandum To: Janel Bloch CC: Introduction to Writing Studies From: Tanner Elrod Date: 9/10/2013 Re: Writing Inventory Introduction As a writer, one of the first questions you have to ask yourself is, “Why do I write?” The reasons for writing can range from necessity to pleasure, school work to a career in writing. Whatever reason you choose to write, you have to be aware of your audience, your purpose, and the reason you are writing. When taking inventory of your writing, you have to decide what constitute “good writing”, find your strengths and weaknesses in writing, and decide when you believe a particular writing is “finished”. What is “good” writing? We write because we are reacting to someone or something. While writing can feel like an isolating, individual act—just you and the computer or pad of paper—it is really a social act, a way in which we respond to the people and world around us. Writing happens in specific, often prescribed contexts. We are not just writing—we are always writing to an audience for some particular purpose. When we write, we do so because we want, need, or have been required to create a fixed space for someone to receive and react to our ideas. Understanding this social or rhetorical context—who our readers may be, why they want to read our ideas, when and where they will be reading, how they might view us as writers—governs some of the choices we make. The writing context requires writers to have a sense of the reader’s expectations...

Preparing for Academic Success at the Graduate Level

...Monica Stracuzza COM/600 September 15, 2014 Gracie Aguilera Characteristics of Graduate Writing Writing at the graduate level is a significant part of a student's coursework when entering into a Master's program. Throughout a person's college career, they have written many papers in their undergraduate studies, but writing papers at a graduate level differs from previous styles of writing. There are very distinct characteristics in graduate writing. Following the rules of graduate writing correctly, makes for a clear and precise paper; grabbing the audience's attention, and making the point of the paper undeniable to the reader, while using facts and references to support the thesis. Critical thinking skills are a crucial part of graduate writing. Critical thinking allows the writer to see all the different sides of the debate. The writer will question any assumptions that are made all while avoiding the use of commonplaces. The writer, according to "Graduate Level Writing" (2011*2014) "develops a clear argument from the available literature on the subject. This type of writing establishes a purpose while addressing a particular audience. Often, graduate level writing also provides suggestions for further research and development beyond the limits of the course assignment." Another important part in writing at the graduate level is using an in-depth analysis, of the subject being discussed. The paper is based solely on empirical...

Swot Analysis

... Knowing my audience, having knowledge about the subject and being able to convey my thoughts are my strengths and when I’m at my best. On a daily bases I deal with all kinds of people from all walks of life. Knowing something about them makes it easy for me to find something we may have in common. I found this not to only be strength for me but for them as well. I guess in some strange way this gives off a feeling of “I got one on you”. Knowledge about anything is always a confident booster and it makes writing a breeze when you posses it when writing about anything. Being about to convey my thoughts and keep them organized is a plus for me. I like to think of myself as an organized person and keeping things in that manner keeps things in the norm for me. Again knowing my audience, having knowledge about the subject and being able to convey my thoughts are my strengths. Some of the weaknesses I having in writing is the way I transition my thoughts, being afraid of not getting my point across and not getting straight to the point. Often when I’m writing so many thoughts of conveying what I want to say come to mind. This at times causes me to jump from one point to another without a smooth transition. I usually know exactly what I want to write but I find it hard to get my point across and without getting straight to the point. As I look back on some of my writing I notice there were several words that I could have omitted and still achieve the same results. I am...

...Over the course of eleven weeks I have grown and learned more that I thought possible. Writing 122 has been an academic experience for me. I have overcome my weaknesses and developed a better understanding and feel for my strengths. I have revealed new weaknesses and strengths that I will continue to work on as I continue taking writing classes. Throughout my Writing 122 class I have accomplished a number of reader’s responses that have allowed me to reflect and express my opinion on the subjects assigned and essays that have allowed me to express my strengths and weaknesses in the course. My ability to write and express my ideas, thoughts and knowledge has grown stronger each week. I have always struggled to put my thoughts on paper in a manner that is coherent and correct according to assignments as-well as proper punctuation. ...Caroline Madamba September 1, 2015 ENG 22 My Strengths and Weakness In this paper, I will write about my strengths and weaknesses. By writing this paper will give me an overview of what I need to work on and what I am best at. I can honestly say there’s not much I’m good at when it comes to writing. Growing up, English classes were always a little challenging for me. Even though I have more weaknesses than strengths, I plan on focusing and progressing in what I need to work on. There’s always room for improvements. One thing that I lack is having poor language skills. I seem to write my papers or essays the way I talk instead of using proper language or definitions. As I’m writing paper my ideas often get all over the place and I get lost in my own words. It’s like being stuck in the middle of nowhere and you can’t seem to take a direction. Another issue I have is using the correct punctuations and grammars in sentences. I mean I now the basics of it like using periods and commas etc. it’s the rest of them that I can’t seem to use properly. Sometimes, I get stuck and I would have to pause and ask myself if my sentence looks correct. It would be helpful to understand how to use them so that I can improve in my writing skills and have better paper/essay. A strength I may have is organization. I find it very helpful to draft your ideas onto paper and writing anything that pops up in your head. By having this rough draft I can refer back to it and place them in the proper...

The Weaknesses Of A Writer

...As I was younger I thought writing was about getting the paper turned in on time with the length requirement met. While growing up and taking many classes that required essays I have realized that having the length requirement met does not mean that it is to the best of my ability. That with more writing assignments and classes gave me a better understanding about what kind of writer I really am. As a writer in college my writings have become better due to self-improvement. My weaknesses have become strengths by utilizing every writing assignment given and trying to improve every weak spot. When I was younger and trying to write an essay I would write down some sentences, reread what I wrote and if I didn't like it, I would throw the paper...
