STRESS

“MAKE STRESS AS YOUR FUEL TO WORK,
NOT AS OIL SPILLED ON ROAD CAUSING ACCIDENTS”

TRESS…. The most common buzz word frequently heard, used and which creates havoc in an organization. We can see people in the organizations complaining about them undergoing stress due to many reasons. On asking them what do you exactly mean by STRESS ?? Or what according to you leads to STRESS??…. The most common answer we hear from the employees is “my boss is not happy with my work, and I am not happy with my boss’s behaviour towards me…...”, “colleagues are jealous about my work being always appreciated by my boss and they don’t talk to me anymore”, “not able to balance my work life with my social life....” and many more reasons of being stressful….

There is a lot of complain from the employees that they feel they are stressed when the organization is undergoing a change and they are not able to cope up with the change happening. They say if there are changes in the organization they will have to UNLEARN the things that they have learned, known and have implemented in the organization and by bringing about a change they will have to again start the process of learning which they had done many years back, i.e. they have to RELEARN. This mostly happens with the workforce who has minimum of 25 years of experience and above. They say if changes are being implemented in an organization they won’t be able to perform up to the mark and their performance would be directly affected and their ratings during appraisals will be affected.

Changes in the organization are must to survive in the competitive market and hence change is necessary. Changes in the organization can be of many types such as, introducing new technology, new working space, different work environment, employment of young blood, new strategies, change in the performance appraisal system, new reforms, change in policies, mergers, acquisitions and many more….. Changes mentioned above are not easily accepted by the employees in the organization and one of the reason can be they may feel that they are at loss if these changes are being implemented and also they may feel that their juniors will become their seniors by implementing changes and they will remain at their positions or may get demotion by implementing these changes. These are some of the most common threats which all the employees face in an organization on implementing changes in the organization and this would lead to STRESS and FRUSTRATION amongst employees. If the employees in an organization are not open to changes then their growth is expected to be stagnant or also may reduce and this in turn will affect the growth of the organization.

Stress not only hits the employees but also the employers, before implementing the changes in the organizations there are many things they need to take into consideration such as, will it be approved by the top management or not, will the change in the organization be accepted by the employees, will it lead to profit in the organization, does these changes are being implemented in other organizations too...., will there be any threat to the organization by implementing these changes etc…
They also have to find the innovative ideas on how to implement the changes in an organization in such a way that it is being accepted by the employees in a positive manner and which leads to increase in productivity and high profitability of the organization. And this task is done by the top management along with the HR team and for undergoing this process they also face stress. They also have to keep a backup plan that if the changes implemented are not being successful then what is the other option of it and it also needs to be taken into consideration that employee or workers don’t protest against implementing the change or after implementing it they may also protest for going back to the routine things which were happening earlier, etc..
So to avoid all such circumstances mentioned above HR team and the top management has to take a call of how the changes has to be implemented so that it is being taken positively by all the employees and it turns into a success of the employees, employers and the organization as well and the success will ultimately lead to less stress as needs of each and every one is fulfilled and there are no chances of one blaming on other for work not completed or goals not achieved.
On the part of employees, they should also understand that the changes made in the organization are for their own benefit and if they are not ok with the changes there will be programmes arranged which would give them the in-depth knowledge of what the change is all about and how would it benefit it to them, and there might some of the training programmes arranges which will help them learn more and more on the technical part. So the employees don’t need to worry upon if there are changes in your organization, it’s for your better future only.

Why people care of what others say and take it as a burden on ourselves which leads to stress for us.... we have got only one life to live and lets live it to the fullest….. Why do we make our life so completed and complex…? Let’s try to make it very simple and easy with minimum of rules and regulations and still being in the limit and completing our work on time without getting a single complain or even complaining about others and accept changes happening around us because it’s a way of life which leads to success.

The method of investigation was a four-part questionnaire. Participants were 81 Glasgow Caledonian University students. There were two hypotheses: 1) problem solving copers will score lower on the Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale. 2) Those high in perceived coursework stress and who reveal wishful thinking strategies will have higher anxiety and depression scores. A multiple regression revealed partial support for both hypotheses – problem strategies had no relationship to coursework stress but wishful thinking and anxiety were both positive predictors of stress; however, contrary to hypothesis 2 depression revealed a strong negative association with stress. The conclusion from this study is that wishful thinkers are also more likely to be anxious; problem focused copers are not anxious, depressed or stressed; stressed students do not suffer from depression.
