... NEED TO DEVELOP UNIFORM CREDIT TRANSFER SYSTEM Dr. Pandit Vidyasagar. The changing paradigm in higher education at global level has brought forward issues which need to be addressed at national level. One of such issues is introduction of credit system at under-graduate & post-graduate level. In India, at present the situation that exists is complex in nature. Though U.G.C. (University Grants Commission) has issued guidelines that the credit system be adopted at all levels of higher education, the actual implementation has not been done. At many universities the annual system is still in practice. Though some of the universities have adopted semester system at under-graduate & post-graduate level, very few universities have implemented credit system and that also, mostly at the post-graduate level. In this scenario the students who wish to join other universities during their studies at under-graduate level or after completion of graduation face many hurdles. This is mostly because there is no accepted system for assigning proper credits for the studies undertaken and to establish the equivalence. In fact, there is no change in attitude of the teacher and academic administrators to accept the credit system. European nations have realized these problems years before and have successfully tried to develop European Credit Transfer System(ECTS). This system is operational at present and has facilitated the movement of the students among different universities...

The course covers both analytical and numerical techniques in solving the associated algebraic as well as differential equations. Analytical methods such as eigenvalue-eigenvector and Green’s function method, and numerical methods such as finite difference, collocation and finite element methods are discussed. All fundamental concepts are introduced with applications related to chemical and environmental engineering using modern software tools. Some background knowledge in analytical methods and numerical analysis from undergraduate modules will be beneficial. CN5020 Advanced Reaction Engineering Modular Credits: 4 Workload: 3-0-0-0-7 Prerequisite(s): Nil Preclusion(s): Nil Cross-listing(s): Nil The module aims to train the students in the fundamentals of reaction engineering and their application to the design and analysis of reactor. The concepts and theory in reaction kinetics are applied to reactor design of single phase reaction system. These are extended to multiphase reaction systems, incorporating the effects of physical rate processes and the interfacial equilibrium leading to the formulation of procedure for the...

...was often delayed in unpredictable ways. My one advantage was a good credit rating. I had gotten my first credit card as an undergrad, and I used it sparingly and paid it in full nearly every month. After a semester abroad, I was carrying a balance, and I took out a small bank loan to pay it off. So I had drawn on a significant amount of credit and used it responsibly. I understand that not everyone starts from this point, so my strategies may be inapplicable for many people. My goal was to keep my spending within the limits of my income and subsidized student loans. Like most grad students, I maintained a pretty austere lifestyle, but nonetheless there were times when I was forced to engage in deficit spending. My strategy for coping with the difficulties of financial management during these periods was based on three simple principles: 1. Think short-term: Long-term questions like how I was going to pay everything off were moot. The important thing was how I was going to keep meeting my immediate obligations until the next influx of cash came. 2. Favor liquidity: Given my access to credit, the only hard constraint was the availability of cash (meaning money in my checking account). If given a choice between going further into debt or making a cash payment that would quickly put me at risk of not being able to meet another cash obligation, I always chose going further into debt. 3. Preserve the credit rating: This meant always paying every bill by whatever means necessary...
