Question: The service provider shall provide Client Based Data Leakage Services necessary to provide services and support for Data Loss Protection (DLP) with the following activities:
a) Deploy the Clinet endpoint agent (XEA) to all new client machines.
b) Deploy the XEA to at least 95% of existing in-scope client machines within 90 days of its initial release.
c) Deploy any patches or updates to the XEA out to 95% of existing XEA-equipped machines (both clients and servers) within 45 days of those patches or updates being released from testing with approval to deploy.
d) Monitor, investigate and remediate instances where the XEA ceases to function on any machine (client or server) that is still connecting to the XGI.
e) Monitor, initiate investigation, and escalate alerts generated by the DLP system indicating mishandling of Clinet classified data.
f) Distribute reports and data extracts as required.
g) Support Tier I and II help-desk end-users’ and server application support questions arising from the XEA.

ORGANIZATION understanding of Requirements:

Clinet is looking for Client Based Data Leakage Services necessary to provide services and support for Data Loss Protection (DLP). Clinet expects deployment of endpoint agents and expecting coverage of 95 % of existing in-scope client machines within 90 days of its initial release.

Clinet expects service provider to deploy or update patches to Clinet Endpoint Agent [XEA]. Service provider need to monitor, investigate and escalate alerts generated by DLP system, indicating mishandling of classified data.

Clinet is expecting a support Tier I and II help-desk end-users’ and server application support questions arising from the XEA.

Challenges/ Risks / Pain areas identified:

a) Information classification and building Leak prevention policy and configuring DL product for securing critical organization information. b) Analyzing possible data leakage scenarios without possessing complete knowledge of technical architecture which may result in misalignment of product investment and may create misconception of security of information. c) Without proper security management effort, inadequate processes around DLP product and without integrating it with Incident Management could result into data leakage incident not being managed effectively. d) Client DLP Product has not been implemented at Clinet before.

Solution:

ORGANIZATION understanding on Client Data Leak Prevention solutions is shown in diagram below. Products evolving in the market under category of Information leak prevention (ILP) would help to address leakage possibilities at the workstations. There are some agent based solutions which sit on client and provide “Data-in-use” protection. It tracks each instance of data operation including copying, burning and pasting between applications. Some of the solutions have the features of replaying each desktop activity and export it to external storage. Details of ILP solutions are mentioned in section 2 of the document.

Environment:

a) Approximately 70% of Clinet clients are notebook computers and Clinet has a highly mobile workforce (including large sales and service organizations). Approximately 25,000 clients are managed by EDS, but there are another 10-15,000 clients that are managed by other organizations. b) Range of global users with up to 10 languages including offshore support providers will be targeted as one of the initial user groups. c) The Client DLP solution should not be tied exclusively to a Windows domain, because data will need to be exchanged across Clinet organizations (which have different domains and support models) and also with Clinet partners. Clinet is expecting number of users in 2008: 2,000 to 5,000 maximum.

Typical DLP product should have capabilities such as centralized management, policy enforcement, data detection and policy enforcement.

ORGANIZATION proposes it offering around three phases for Data Leak Prevention solution implementation - Consulting around DLP Architecture and product configuration policy - Consulting for transition DLP implementation to take it to managed mode - Managed Data Leak Prevention service
