...Students with Bad Vices Chapter I CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Background of the Study The rate of students involved in bad vices such as smoking, hard drinking, gambling and sometimes illegal drugs, addiction in computer games and variety of gadgets are serious problems that need diplomatic actions. There are lots of reasons why the youth nowadays are being involved in bad vices. One of the major reasons per observation is the lack of quality relationship with their parents because a lot of parents are just being parents who provide material and physical needs and forget the needs of their children in terms of the emotional and moral aspects. High School senior students are driven to do bad things just to satisfy themselves with their bad vices, like stealing money from their parents, cutting their classes hours, getting into troubles in the community or even inside the school. These things may lead to even more unlikely things that they may even do notorious things to their people. The child-parent relationship is even gone worse because youths are being more and more stubborn while the parents are losing their temper and patience to understand the situation of their children. Parents tend to become stricter and they are being more authoritative to their children that may lead to a rebellion against them. Parents should not only be simply just a parent, but they also be a best friend to their children. They should spend more quality time with their family, talk...

...support a claim; can also be the facts and statistics used to help support the argument. Throughout this whole Ms. Cathy Davidson does a great job using statistics and other logical information to back up her argument. A great example of this is in chapter 8 when she discusses how the World Wide Web is effective if everyone uses it. She uses logos by saying over 80 percent of Americans between the ages of fifty and fifty-four are now online. She goes into more depth in this chapter with the use of statistics when she talks about how it is not only young people using social networking but also forty percent of the people who use Facebook and Myspace are over the age of thirty-five. When she uses examples like those it gives you a good mental understanding of how many older people are trying to keep up with technology, thus helping her defend her argument even better. Ethos is the source's credibility and the speaker's or author's authority. Ms. Davidson has good ethos and this makes her argument more believable. You can look at her credentials and see that she is a person who knows what she is talking about. She has all the accolades a person needs to make them sound like they know what is going on. Ms. Cathy Davidson served as vice provost at Duke University from 1998 to 2006 in interdisciplinary studies. Ms. Davidson is the author of 18 books. She has...

...CHAPTER I Introduction It seems to be a "coming of age thing" when a student goes to teenage life and encounters vices such as drinking and smoking is very rampant nowadays. Such vices cannot be ignored anymore as to the more students seem to be detaching from their spare time or even they intend to cut classes just for this so called vices, they seem to be enjoying freedom too much. A student may be influenced to be involved in any of the stated variables. High School is far different from being a college student. A person will have a new life when one goes to college. New environment which one has to adapt, new set of friends which one have to treat nice, and new subjects or topics that one has to study based on what course you will get. Although drinking, smoking, and drug-use for some usually result in adverse health consequences, there are some perceived benefits or advantages of these behaviors particularly from the point of view of the adolescents and youths. Adolescents may view drinking and smoking as privileges of adults and may want to engage in them to feel grown up and to present themselves as adults to others. Some of the reasons given are: the availability of cigarettes at home, parents being model of smoking and drinking behavior and consequently parents lack the credibility as advocates for non-smoking or non-drinking.(Aroyo 2001) Smoking and drinking are two of the most important risk factors explaining early mortality, accounting for an estimated...

(https://ph.news.yahoo.com/vice-ganda-slang-dictionary-083641238.html) There is his invention of distinct and initially perplexing words to add to the "gay lingo." These have eventually been picked up not only by other stars themselves but also by normal Netizens and rabid showbiz fans in their daily conversations. Sample words are: “Shunga" While it has been a term that's already been widely used long before Vice has uttered it on air, it was nevertheless among his most favorite words to use, which describes someone as stupid. Sample: "Alam mo ang shunga nung pagkakalagay mo nung costume mo kasi baliktad eh!" "Puchu Puchu" It's not a breed of a dog nor is it related to the Lebanese chocolate brand Patchi. It is actually a term coined by Vice himself on "It's Showtime" that describes a...

...CHAPTER I Introduction Cigarette smoking is tremendously widespread and is the most crucial problem that many countries are facing up to now. Despite all laws that restrict smoking and the emphasis of media that smoking kills, it still remains as the most addictive vice that begins early in childhood and adolescence which results to a lifetime habit. Tobacco use is one of the preventable causes of death, yet, will be the leading cause of preventable and premature deaths globally in next few years (Salazar, 2004). As years come, the average age of smokers is declining. The youth is greatly and easily influenced by smoking especially if proper guidance for them to avoid it was not established. Indisputably, smoking creates a big impact on people, and year by year, the population of smokers increase thus tobacco-related illnesses that may lead to death also increase. Even the expression that “Warning: Smoking is bad for your health.” is not enough to encourage people especially the young to pick up the habit. It is seriously evident that the several programs or regulations formed to avoid and quit smoking needs more “press on” to switch down its impression to the people Background of the Study There are 1.25 billion smokers around the globe and consequently, one-third to one-half of it, which is almost 6 million people, will be killed in the year 2010 from the disruptive effects of smoking. According to the nonprofit research and advocacy organizations, smoking rates...

...Timothy Gettle. I do not know his middle name, age, or birthday. A majority of the time we spend together is spent getting on each other's nerves. Yet, if someone were to ask me who has most impacted me during my high school career I would without a doubt respond with his name. In the time I have spent with Mr. Gettle, he has taught me how to conquer my fears, how to be a leader , and most importantly how to be confident in myself. It all began in my eighth grade year taking the required Agricultural Science class taught by Mr. Timothy Gettle. At this point in my life I was incredibly shy and probably said a total of two words the first week in his class, Then, it came time for our first assignment, Every student had to do a speech in front of the entire class. I was deathly afraid, as I am sure most of the others were as well. Afterall, public speaking is one of the most common fears. It was awful, and even though that one experience did not cure me of my fear, Mr. Gettle made me do it again and again. Eventually, I even started doing speech competitions, Mr. Gettle helped me overcome my fear and open my eyes to the fact that what I thought to be terrifying was not so bad afterall....

...RELATIONSHIPS AMONG SELECTED MNHS STUDENTS TO PREVENT TEENAGE PREGNANCY CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM: RATIONALE AND BACKGROUND Rationale In the breakthrough of modern age, people have become less disciplined and liberated. Our youth, which is supposed to be the future of our society, have become wayward into the wrong path. They are engaged in criminal activities, vices, dangerous groups and etc. Right now, one of the biggest crisis that we are facing is the increasing percentage of teenage pregnancy. In such a young age, teenagers stop going to school because of unintentionally becoming pregnant. Some may choose to continue going to school but commonly, most of them cease to go to school and choose to stay at home because of certain circumstances such as fearing the judgment of other people. From 2000 to 2010, the number of live births by teenage mothers in the Philippines rose by more than 60 percent, latest data from the National Statistics Office showed. We could somehow conclude that the number of dropouts increased in the past school years. As I cited above, we know that teenage pregnancy is becoming a threat in our academic development. That is why, I propose of implementing rules in dealing with romantic relationships among selected MNHS to prevent teenage pregnancy. I. ...ORWELL’S ANIMAL FARM By HAZEL K. DAVIS, Federal Hocking High School, Stewart, OH S E R I E S W. GEIGER ELLIS, ED.D., E D I T O R S : UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA, EMERITUS and ARTHEA J. S. REED, PH.D., UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA, RETIRED A Teacher’s Guide to the Signet Classic Edition of George Orwell’s Animal Farm 2 INTRODUCTION Animal Farm is an excellent selection for junior and senior high students to study. Although on one level the novel is an allegory of the 1917 Russian Revolution, the story is just as applicable to the latest rebellion against dictators around the world. Young people should be able to recognize similarities between the animal leaders and politicians today. The novel also demonstrates how language can be used to control minds. Since teenagers are the target not only of the educational system itself but also of advertising, the music industry, etc., they should be interested in exploring how language can control thought and behavior. Animal Farm is short and contains few words that will hamper the reader’s understanding. The incidents in the novel allow for much interactive learning, providing opportunities for students to dramatize certain portions, to expand on speeches, and to work out alternative endings. The novel can be taught collaboratively with the history department as an allegory of the Russian Revolution, allowing students to draw parallels between actual events and people and the imaginary ones created by Orwell...
