THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
This chapter includes the statement of the problem, theoretical and conceptual framework, and background of the study.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
A child can be more intelligent and may show strong self-confidence in class as compare to those who have not developed their good study habits. A student who does not have good study habits may not perform well in class recitation, quizzes, and activities. This could happen because he may come to school unprepared. Good study habits are the tool to success. (Losare 2007) “Sound study skills and habits are crucial to academic success. Intelligence alone cannot do the job (although it certainly helps). Good academic skills do not develop overnight. They are acquired gradually, so be patient with you. Fortunately, tasks such as reading textbooks, writing papers, and taking tests get easier with practice” Marabut’s article (2006) of Improving Academic Performance p. 96. The word study is connected to the word learning. Learning consists of discovering what generates pleasure and what generates distress for the individual. Changes produced by learning are not always positive in nature. People can acquire bad habits as well as good ones. Good study habit brings many possibilities of attaining better academic performance. Moreover, there are already numerous studies conducted about study habits in connection to the academic performance of student. Mohasco (2007), “Good study habits with proper attitudes will lead to good student’s performance in school”. If an individual is having a planned study habit and is willing to make that happen, it will lead him to a good performance in his school, as stated of Mohasco. Children nowadays, are fond of video games as stated in the study of “Gentile and Hauge” (2002) that video games had become a popular past time among children and

It becomes a habit or way of life of the student just like brushing their teeth every after eating, taking a bath every day, and other activities that they are doing. Nowadays, many student are engaged in computer games just like DOTA; cutting classes, watching pornography, excessive playing on their gadgets like their cell phones, iPods, computers, PSP, and other devices they have, and worst of all is that they engage in vices such as illegal drugs, gambling, and crimes and even prostitution.
