...Barriers of communication There are many types of barriers of communication these prohibit you from talking/ or communicating with a person. In this report I will be discussing what the different barriers of communication are examples of them in the workplace and how they can be reduced. * Interrupting a person when talking: This is barrier of communication is for example within the work place if someone is doing a presentation and they are a talking to a group of people. Within that group if some of the colleagues are speaking whilst the person is presenting this would cause a distraction to the person who is talking. It could also make it harder for the people who actually want to listen. This would mean that the people listening would not get the important message that was being said to them in the presentation. If was something important for example like a new system is being out at work the employees then would not know this information. A way to reduce this is before speaking or doing presentation the person presenting makes sure that everyone is silent and warn the people they are presenting to that this is crucial information you are about to be told. Additionally they could stop every time a person talks over them so the person gets embarrassed which could stop them doing it again. * Stuttering or speech impairment; Having a stutter or speech impairment creates a barrier for communicating because the person who you are talking to may find it hard to understand...

...first part of our group’s presentation: Study life of a student at university. My talk will be in three parts. First, I’d like to give you an overview of the difference between university and high school. Second, I’ll focus on the new study form. Finally, I’ll talk about new exam form. So, let’s start with the difference between university and high school. As you know, a classroom in high school is small and only enough for about 50 students. But at university, the classroom is larger, crowded, and not fixed. It can have more than 100 people and well-equipped. Moreover, the lecturers at university have the new teaching styles that are not similar to these of teacher in high school. For example, teacher often check our homework, remind us of our incomplete task, while lecturers may not do that. At university, we are supposed to do that self- consciously. Lecturers provide us helpfully with knowledge and the direction. It is the fact that, many freshmen aren’t used to this teaching styles so at first, the result of study is not good. But then, they find it more enjoyable. Furthermore, the regulation at university isn’t as compulsory as in high school. We have more freedom and responsibilities. It is up to us to go to class, manage our work. The benefit is that we can own our timetable, our study and our life. On the other hand, some students are lazy or tempted to other attraction such as: internet, game…Ok, let’s move on to the new study form at university. We will focus on a particular...

...STUDIES IN PROFESSIONAL LIFE AND WORK Mike Hayler University of Brighton, UK Autoethnography, Self-Narrative and Teacher Education examines the professional life and work of teacher educators. In adopting an autoethnographic and life-history approach, Mike Hayler develops a theoretically informed discussion of how the professional identity of teacher educators is both formed and represented by narratives of experience. The book draws upon analytic autoethnography and life-history methods to explore the ways in which teacher educators construct and develop their conceptions and practice by engaging with memory through narrative, in order to negotiate some of the ambivalences and uncertainties of their work. The author’s own story of learning, embedded within the text, was shared with other teacher-educators, who following interviews wrote self-narratives around themes which emerged from discussion. The focus for analysis develops from how professional identity and pedagogy are influenced by changing perceptions and self-narratives of life and work experiences, and how this may influence professional culture, content and practice in this area. Autoethnography, Self-Narrative and Teacher Education Autoethnography, Self-Narrative and Teacher Education STUDIES IN PROFESSIONAL LIFE AND WORK The book includes an evaluation of how using this approach has allowed the author to investigate both the subject and method of the research with implications for ...

...The Life and Studies of Sigmund Freud Sigmund Freud is one of the most famous people throughout the history of psychology. Even though Freud was not the first person to do research on the conscious and unconscious mind, his work in psychoanalytical research on the subject is considered to be one of the most important theories done on the subject. Besides his theory on the conscious and unconscious mind, Freud came up with important theories on life and death instincts, the defense mechanism, the id, ego, superego, and psychosexual developments. Freud’s researches in these areas were some of the most important theories developed in psychology. Although many psychologists seem to look down at some of Freud’s theories, without him the world of psychology would probably not be the same. Freud’s work with the conscious and unconscious mind is considered to be one of his most famous theories. In his theory the mind basically consist of two parts, the conscious and the unconscious. The conscious part of a person’s mind basically consists of things that the person is aware of. This includes the memory, or “preconscious”, because it is data that can be easily retrieved by a person. The unconscious mind consists of things outside of one’s consciousness, such as feelings, urges, memories, or thoughts. When a person thinks of the unconscious mind he or she will generally think of a Freudian slip. Unfortunately, this is an experience that almost everyone has experienced. A Freudian slip...

Similarly, there is countless time we feel helpless, although we really hope our societal issues can be improved; but most of the times they are beyond our control too. For example: Inequality on gender, race and etcetera. (P) It is too obvious that Baca was helpless and angry at the same time. However, as a young kid, he already considered to solve a problem with violence. Therefore, it wasn’t too surprised when he became more and more violence in his later life. ...Main problem The main problem in this case is the conflict between two different cultures underlined by two divergent management styles. A loose and people-oriented management style, applied by the supervisor Mike Wilson which proved to be efficient with the current situation of Consolidated Life company, versus a strict and task-oriented management style exercised by the senior vice president Jack Greely, a style assumed by the management to be the reference model that reflects the company’s culture and to be followed by all managers. Clash of cultures and management styles When Mike first got hired, the culture was “laissez faire” with flexible supervisory style, supervisors were free to manage their units as they saw fit and the management was tolerant to some limits. This culture permitted Mike Wisely to go far with his flexible management and create a loose and casual atmosphere in the company. Mike was more into a family type of culture with personal, face-to-face relationship with his team members. After he returned to the company, the management changed to be more tough and stricter with rules enforcement and task-oriented style. People have to do the work following the vice president rules and procedures with no margin of freedom or self-initiatives. Management, by oppression and hardship, governed the atmosphere in the company that some employees felt like working in a prison. Tension among employees, especially supervisors, was very high and people were...

...The Life Insurance Corporation of India was established in 1956 when the Parliament of India passed the Life Insurance of India Act that nationalized the private protection industry in India. More than 245 insurance agencies and provident social orders were converged to make the state possessed Life Insurance Corporation. Brief History of Insurance The narrative of protection is likely as old as the tale of humanity. The same nature that prompts present day agents today to secure themselves against loss and disaster existed in primitive men too. They excessively looked for, making it impossible to turn away the underhanded results of flood and loss and death toll and were willing to make some kind of penance so as to accomplish security. In...

...1. Identify and briefly justify the core problem (major internal weakness) faced by Island Life Insurance. The core problem lays in the marketing concept i.e. the Product concept undertaken does not suit the industry in which the company is in. This can be seen where the company focuses mainly on quality and continuous improvement with little promotion. Since insurance is an unsought good, promotion is highly needed, yet there is limited promotion and no marketing department. 2. Suggest a marketing strategy to increase sales at Island Life. The marketing strategy should identify the target market and the marketing mix. Briefly justify each element of the marketing strategy. The marketing strategy that should be implemented holds a selling concept; this concept can increase sales by developing a strong promotional strategy as well an established marketing department, which can be highly effective once the promotional budget is well planned. Although the company has a target market of mainly males who hold 52.5% of the population, the company is not capitalizing out on the other 47.5% of women who can attribute highly to increase sales; therefore insurance should be sold to persons who need insurance and the target market focuses on persons between 25-65 years of age. Along with the right marketing concept and a readjusted target market, the marketing mix would be as follows: Product High quality should be continued in order to maintain existing customers, as...

...everyday activities along with studies. I have learned that, in order to balance my family life, work life, and progress with my education, all at the same time, I have to be super organized, realistic with my goals and ask for help when I need it. Organization is the first step and the foundation for successfully balancing studies with my other responsibilities in life. I have learned that for each minute of time spent organizing, I can earn a great deal of time. So, every night, before I go to bed, I write down two lists. One that lists the urgent tasks, that have immediate deadlines, that need to be accomplished the next day, and the other with important tasks that, in the event that I’m super busy, can wait to be accomplished a day or two later. On the urgent task list, I include things such as work deadlines, doctor appointments, workout timings, teacher meetings, sports for kids, and of course, pending college assignments. On the important task list, I include things such as deliveries for my honey selling business, mail pick-ups at the post office, groceries, and car washes or oil changes. Then, I update my Google calendar, with both lists, which I have synchronized with my wife’s calendar as well as with that of my brother, so that they remain updated, in case there are any changes or if I ever need a helping hand. On the calendar, each of my tasks is color coded, according to the type it comes under: family responsibilities, work or studies; and timed. The good thing...

...EXPERIMENT NO: 1 AIM: To study Information Life Cycle Management. THEORY: INFORMATION LIFECYCLE: The information lifecycle is the “change in the value of information” over time. When data is first created, it often has the highest value and is used frequently. As data ages, it is accessed less frequently and is of less value to the organization. Understanding the information lifecycle helps to deploy appropriate storage infrastructure, according to the changing value of information. For example, in a sales order application, the value of the information changes from the time the order is placed until the time that the warranty becomes void (see Figure 1-7). The value of the information is highest when a company receives a new sales order and processes it to deliver the product. After order fulfillment, the customer or order data need not be available for real-time access. The company can transfer this data to less expensive secondary storage with lower accessibility and availability requirements unless or until a warranty claim or another event triggers its need. After the warranty becomes void, the company can archive or dispose of data to create space for other high-value information. Information Lifecycle Management Today’s business requires data to be protected and available 24 × 7. Data centers can accomplish this with the optimal and appropriate use of storage infrastructure. An effective information management policy is required to support...

...Glenn McVey WLAC Ms. Goncher 3/10/2015 Gender studies throughout Okonkwo’s life You should not mistake Okonkwo’s rough exterior for his true feelings. The reader’s privileged vantage position reveals many puzzling inward emotions. Achebe repeatedly frames Okonkwo’s thoughts with the condition, ‘inwardly’. His ‘slight stammer’ reveals much more of his “Chi” than his father’s skillful speech ever would. All of this contradiction drives the reader to investigate the truth of Okonkwo. To understand a man’s Chi, one must understand where his story begins. Just as Okonkwo’s fall begins in Umuofia, it is the same story of his father, Unoka, framed within Okonkwo’s life. The reader first learns that Okonkwo’s father was a creative and loving man, with a great potential for happiness. In the environment of the Igbo culture, however, he struggled; he was considered a failure. And so Unoka retained his passion for beauty and joy, but became familiar with sadness and pain. Through it all, the man never let the scorn of others control his behavior. Unoka literally takes his flute to his humiliating grave. Okonkwo’s pride makes him vulnerable where his father was not. He vividly remembers a playmate call his father a name, bringing shame upon Okonkwo. This part of his story hints at not only the psychological origin, but the cultural significance behind Okonkwo’s “Chi”. Okonkwo’s pride makes him vulnerable to succumb to his great consuming fear of rejection and disapproval. He then...
