...Question one. The Tennessee Valley Authority ( TVA) has an interesting structure in terms of its operation and management classification. The TVA is a corporation owned by the U.S. government and provides electricity for 7 million people in parts of southeastern states. Its ownership by the U.S government and the company not being subject to Civil service regulations makes it interesting. In trying to explain the organization wholly, the TVA is characterized by several outstanding features and classifications of which two require mention at this point. The first being operations and the second being management structure. In addition to this, the TVA enjoys substantial organizational independence. The TVA uses a centralized authority which is expressed through a decentralized administration. Looking at operations, it stands apart from other federal agencies. It has only such relations with other departments and agencies as its Board of Directors may authorize or agree to and it reports to the President and the Congress directly. Furthermore, the TVA enjoys certain privileges by virtue of its status as a government corporation. It possesses operational flexibility not normally granted a department. In the matter, for example, of procedure in setting up different business units, separate budgets and having separate policies or objectives . It manages its personnel with only limited supervision by the Civil Service Commission. As derived from the article, it enjoys greater freedom...

...and Physiology of Clinical Research Stephen B. Hulley, Thomas B. Newman, and Steven R. Cummings This chapter introduces clinical research from two viewpoints, setting up themes that run together through the book. One theme is the anatomy of research-what it's made of. This includes the tangible elements of the study plan: the research question, design, subjects, measurements, sample size calculation, and so forth. An investigator's goal is to create these elements in a form that will make the project fast, inexpensive, and easy. The other theme is the physiology of research-how it works. Studies are useful to the extent that they yield valid inferences, first about what happened in the study sample and then about generalizing these events to people outside. the study. The goal is to minimize the errors, random and systematic, that threaten conclusions based on these inferences. Separating these two themes is artificial in the same way that the anatomy of the human body does not make much sense without some understanding of its physiology. But the separation has the same advantage: It clarifies our thinking about a complex topic. . THE ANATOMY OF RESEARCH: WHAT IT'S MADE OF The structure of a research project is set out in its protocol, the written plan of the study. Protocols are well kn~wn as devices for seeking grant funds, but they also have a vital scientific function: helping the investigator to organize her research in a logical, focused, and efficient way. ...Report Volume 8 Number 3 September 2003 447-461 http://www.nova.edu/ssss/QR/QR8-3/mccaslin.pdf The Five-Question Method For Framing A Qualitative Research Study Mark L. McCaslin University of Idaho, Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA Karen Wilson Scott University of Idaho, Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA The Five-Question Method is an approach to framing Qualitative Research, focusing on the methodologies of five of the major traditions in qualitative research: biography, ethnography, phenomenology, grounded theory, and case study. Asking Five Questions, novice researchers select a methodology appropriate to the desired perspective on the selected topic. The Method facilitates identifying and writing a Problem Statement. Through taking a future perspective, the researcher discovers the importance and direction of the study and composes a Purpose Statement. The process develops an overarching research question integrating the purpose and the research problem. The role of the researcher and management of assumptions and biases is discussed. The Five-Question Method simplifies the framing process promoting quality in qualitative research design. A course outline is appended. Key words: Qualitative Research, Five-Question Method, Biography Research, Phenomenology Research, Grounded Theory Research, Case Study Research, and Ethnography Research Introduction Planning a qualitative study for the first time tends to be an intimidating venture for graduate students just entering the field. ...Comparison Matrix Paper James Trent Grand Canyon University RES-811 October 8, 2014 Research Questions Customer service satisfaction and leadership, what do they have in common? Can you have poor leadership and great customer service satisfaction? Can you have great leadership and poor customer service satisfaction? Are there commonalities in the two? Are there any major differences in the two? Are there metrics that can be used to improve poor customer service? Is it possible to have one without the other? Every business in today’s society depends on customer service. For many customers it’s the most important thing to determine if there will be repeat business or not. The three studies that I’ve been asked to compare and contrast touches on the questions mentioned and provides strong arguments for both scenarios. One article states the following: “Customer satisfaction depends, to a large extent on the attitude of customer contact personnel (Emery. Pg. 77, 2007). Another article states that “Delivering quality customer service has emerged as a strategic imperative, one that is increasingly tied to a firm’s information technology resources and capabilities (Ray. Pg. 625, 2005). When looking over the three articles, they approach questions in a different way. Instead of asking direct questions in the study, each article takes the same approach and proposes several hypotheses. After the hypotheses is ...

...early 1970s, Meyer and Schvaneveldt (1971) conducted a study to see how participants would retrieve words if a certain word was paired with another (Meyer and Schvaneveldt, 1971). Just a year before, Meyer and Ellis (1970) had conducted a similar study and measured how long it took for a participant to recognize a word and how long it took to decide what semantic category the word specifically fit in (Meyer and Ellis, 1970). However, what the researchers did not yet realize was that these two studies would be the beginning for the topic of priming. Today, most understand priming as the influence that exposure to one stimulus has on another due to implicit knowledge (Nugent, 2013). Perceptual Priming Perceptual priming is just one of the many different methods that can be used to prime an individual. Mas, Kuhnel, Reichelt, et. al (2013) recently experimented the effects of perceptual priming. The researchers found that if a participant was exposed to part of a (colored) picture in the beginning of the study, subjects were more likely to recognize the photo later on in the study compared to participants who were primed with a gray-scaled photo. Based on this research, being exposed to part of a picture but seeing the same picture as a complete later on in the study is considered to be perceptual priming. The researchers found supporting...
