Successful Responsibility Personal responsibility is taking ownership for your actions and holding yourself responsible for the decisions you make. This is something that is instilled in us from the time we started school in kindergarten, as well as while growing up through our parents. We live in a victimized world that is too quick to blame another for our misfortunes, but even faster to be held accountable for our accomplishments. Accountability, structure and gratification all come with having personal responsibility. Structure gives you the ability to manage your time and prioritize your demands. Accountability gives you the opportunity to grow by learning from your mistakes and flourishing through your accomplishments. Gratification also comes with personal responsibility because you are taking ownership of your actions, growing as an individual and putting yourself in a position where all decisions you make will create positive outcomes. These are all values that are demanded from us in order to be successful and reach our short and long term goals. These are also key elements to becoming a successful student and achieving your academic goals.
While some may argue that personal responsibility does not directly affect college success because college already has an established structure to follow, it directly affects your overall success in life. Structure is everywhere we look, from a class syllabus to the way we drive, structure has been established. Personal responsibility helps builds structure in so many ways. Creating structure in your life gives you the opportunity to manage your time wisely, establish expectations and dictate your outcome with goal setting. When you are aware of what is expected of you and you give yourself the time to complete tasks such as studying and homework, you are setting yourself up for success. Without structure you are

My Choices

...Choice of Ending the Cycle Lawrence Miller Jr. Composition I Instructor Hewlett April 25, 2015 When does the cycle come to an end? Better yet do I start the process to change the cycle? I sit for days on end, trying to collect my thoughts of what I picture my life would be like, rather than the images of my childhood. Images of my mother being beaten by my father, will forever be a stained memory in my brain. Missing out on growing up with my siblings, because of the choices I made. The only solution my mother could come to was sending me away. This cycle of being a deadbeat father, uneducated, abusive and alcoholic now I was carrying the burden on my shoulders. One day I said I can’t continue down this path. After all the headaches, stress, endless jobs my decision became very clear, college is the final decision. I realize if I want to strive for greatness and become a solid provider, role model for my family, secondary education is required. My days as a child, I could remember sitting in my room dreaming of what I wanted my life to be like. I told myself I would have a family, house and awesome job. Over the years my dreams started to become further near. As I begin to look over my life I realized, I was following the same path as my parents. It began when I had my first child at 18, just as my father had me. The cycle had begun, I wasn’t even aware that my life was about to go down a winding path. Birth is the beginning of life, as a newborn you are a virgin...

Far too often failure is blamed on outside influences whereas the true answer lies within oneself. My success as a University of Phoenix (UOPX) student is my personal responsibility and I realize that I need to manage my time more efficiently as well as become more organized in my personal life to become a successful student. “Personal Responsibility is the quality or state of being accountable, an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or account for ones actions.” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2013). I must take responsibility for my work, my family, and my education to be lucrative and successful in my degree program. I will have to create a plan to create a balance of these important parts of my life. This will have a great deal to do with getting my priorities in order. Personal Responsibility

...Personal Responsibility Tim Sisson GEN 200 March 24, 2012 Virginia Mapes Personal Responsibility What is Personal Responsibility? Personal responsibility is defined by Merriam-Webster (2012), as: “Responsibility: the quality or state of being responsible; as moral, legal or mental accountability.” This definition can take on many annotations. It is my opinion in regards to this paper that Personal Responsibility is what makes up a person’s ‘moral fiber’. It is the ability to make decisions based on what a person feels is right or wrong. It is that little voice in the back of a person’s head that guides them when life presents choices and challenges. Those who possess Personal Responsibility tend to make wiser choices and decisions in life. These wiser decisions are made for the fact that they know that they will be held accountable for their actions. Personal Responsibility is the hallmark of success in all aspects of a person’s life. It is that individual who makes the wiser decisions in life that will tend to be more successful in life. Individuals have the choice to make right and wrong decisions in life. Galindo (2010) states “It is their morals, ethics, and personal responsibilities that guide them through life in their decision making process.” A persons ‘moral fiber’ is defined by how they make those decisions. Will the individual be responsible and make the right decision or will he possibly make an easier, less responsible choice? Is the thought...
