...Choice of Ending the Cycle Lawrence Miller Jr. Composition I Instructor Hewlett April 25, 2015 When does the cycle come to an end? Better yet do I start the process to change the cycle? I sit for days on end, trying to collect my thoughts of what I picture my life would be like, rather than the images of my childhood. Images of my mother being beaten by my father, will forever be a stained memory in my brain. Missing out on growing up with my siblings, because of the choices I made. The only solution my mother could come to was sending me away. This cycle of being a deadbeat father, uneducated, abusive and alcoholic now I was carrying the burden on my shoulders. One day I said I can’t continue down this path. After all the headaches, stress, endless jobs my decision became very clear, college is the final decision. I realize if I want to strive for greatness and become a solid provider, role model for my family, secondary education is required. My days as a child, I could remember sitting in my room dreaming of what I wanted my life to be like. I told myself I would have a family, house and awesome job. Over the years my dreams started to become further near. As I begin to look over my life I realized, I was following the same path as my parents. It began when I had my first child at 18, just as my father had me. The cycle had begun, I wasn’t even aware that my life was about to go down a winding path. Birth is the beginning of life, as a newborn you are a virgin...

...NAME: ADE AJOSE COURSE: ENGLISH COMPOSITION 1 INSTRUCTOR: DR JACOB SIZI DATE: 02-09-2014 A SUCCESSFUL PERSON What really is success? What makes an individual successful? According to Merriam-Webster mini Dictionary, success is defined as, “the act of achieving something good that you have been trying to do, or something that has a god result or is very popular. The word ‘success’ originated in the mid-16th century from Latin ‘successus’ , from the verb ‘succedere’. The society at large thinks success is all about material things such as how expensive one’s car is, how large one’s house is or one’s social status in the society and financial freedom. However, success does not basically deal with material goods and properties, but is tied to broader concepts such as happiness, overcoming hardship and achieving certain goals. The true indicator of success is not determined by what an individual accomplishes but rather how the individual feels after an accomplishment. In other words, in order for one to be seen as successful, he or she must be happy or contented. For instance, if I look back at my life since I was born till this moment and I feel satisfied and happy with my current situation, I would consider myself a success. However, if I look back and I feel I could have done better and feel disappointed, I would not consider myself to be a success. Hence, success is directly proportional to happiness. Also,...

...the ultimate difference. ‘The Other Wes Moore’ tells a story about two boys with similar names, similar backgrounds, growing up in similar neighborhood in Baltimore. Despite their many similarities, the choices they each made are what granted them separate fates. The author, Wes Moore, ends up as a graduate of John Hopkins University, a White House fellow, an army officer and the co-author of the book. The other Wes Moore ends up as a thief, drug dealer and a convicted killer. It is not luck that determines their different fate in life, but rather their mothers who influenced their futures. In ‘The Other Wes Moore’, the author Wes Moore illustrates that if children do not have strong parental figures and proper guidance, they will not be successful in life. Among the numerous factors that led the two Wes Moores to different paths, their mothers played the most vital role. The other Wes’s mother, Mary, does not provide the guidance that her son requires so desperately. After skipping school and partying with his friends, Wes returned to his house visibly intoxicated. Instead of being concerned, Mary and her boyfriend seemed to be entertained by Wes’s state saying, “Well, at least now you know how bad it feels and you will stay away from drinking” (Moore 62). Instead of giving some sort of punishment, or talking to him about smoking and alcohol, Mary ignored the situation. She allowed him to suffer through his hangover, hoping that he will learn his lesson. As she did not address...

...Tips for Successful Students Throughout my whole life, I can always remember time management being a strong point, whether it be in school or work. The statement, “you will either control time or be controlled by it” (Lake, A. & von Baeyer, C. 2005) has always lingered in the back of my mind, as my parents would say this to me often when trying to balance life, school, and work. Having a strong sense of time management has given me the ability to balance whatever it is I am confronted with. Whether it be finding time to do school assignments while working full time and also continuing my busy life, or whether it be passing meds, doing dressing changes, placing a foley, and admitting a patient all within a busy hour, time management is essential. Not only does it allow for a less-stressful flow, it also allows me to accomplish my tasks in a timely fashion and feel organized and in-control of what I am doing. I feel having this characteristic as a strong point will help me in this course because not only do I work full-time at night, but I also- like most other students- have a busy life surrounding me as well. Being able to manage what is laid out in front of me will assist in me being a successful student, without neglecting work or my personal life. Procrastination isn’t in the equation for being successful, as leaving tasks for later can lead to mistakes or to be forgotten. Scheduling your time can only be done by you; Do it wisely. (Richie S. & Alspaugh, L. 2011). ...

...Donecia Hudson July 8, 2015 My Successful Goal One of my greatest successes that I’ve every accomplished was, helping my old high school track team win the regions. The obstacle’s I had to overcome for me to help my team get the win was for me to go to practice after physical therapy because my knee was messed up from playing basketball. The reason I say this because I was playing basketball before track season started and I had a bad knee injury just a little bit. So I had to go to physical therapy to help strengthen my knee back to its full health. I also had to work mighty hard on my events which were 1600 meter run and the 800 meter run. The way I practice for these events was by running two laps in the beginning of practice very slowly to maintain things with my knee. Than I did my excises to losing up my body. Next I ran the bleachers to strengthen my leg muscles. Finally I ran my 1600 meter run, took me a two minute break. Then I stated my 800 meter run and I did this frequently until the big day came. As well as going to my physical therapy to make things go smooth before for my big day. When the big day came my teammates and me where a little bit nerves that day to, but we pulled it together. We went out there and did what we had to do to get the win. When it was time for me to run my team was a little cheerful for me as I ran my races that day. Eventually everything that I did helped, we got the win and it paid off in the end. At least two sentences explaining...

...“Successful Leader” The media item that I choose was a commercial form the Bush vs. Gore campaign in 2000. The commercial was representing George W. Bush. This particular commercial was titled “Successful Leader,” Bush for President, Inc., 2000. This political commercial was created from the Museum of the Moving Image, The Living Room Candidate: Presidential Campaign Commercials 1952- 2012. The commercial was created in 2000. It was created on behalf of George W. Bush. The purpose of this commercial was to reinforce his image as a "compassionate conservative" with his focus on domestic issues and frequent images of seniors and children. In the commercial the bias was more towards the Republican views. The tactics that are used in the commercial to persuade the people’s views are by listing the positive changes that he has accomplished through his years as a governor. They listed the most important things such as cutting taxes, educational improvement, and juvenile crime rates. The symbolism that I see in that commercial is a leader, a great leader. I see someone who can give us a better change in America, someone whom can enhance each and every state, it instead of destroying them. A person who cares and wants everyone to have the best of what they can. The media can greatly effect elections by generating attention, whether it is through negative campaigning or through their choice in coverage of a candidate. "In competing for the attention of the large strip of the voting...

...Potentially harmful therapies, also known as PHT's, are a very serious issue in the field of psychology that work to find new ways to improve certain illnesses but end up worsening the outcome in the process. Although criticized for many reasons, these harmful therapies are just now being seen as a problem to psychologists conducting the different therapies. The therapies that can be shown as having "successful" outcomes make it easy to say that the good out ways the bad and to ignore the possible downfalls or issues. One problem with ignoring the weaknesses of a therapy is the APA's ethics code, which states that clinicians are not allowed to put patients in harm whether that be physical or emotional. The reasoning behind this code is to ensure that people do in fact get treated by the therapies they undergo,...
