She also theorizes that emerging adults are self-focused but not selfish and also have mixed feeling about becoming an adult. When reading this article, I definitely think that there are costs and benefits to becoming an adult. Not all adolescence is in a storm and stress idea of being at war with the parents and the world. Arnett references Anna Freud who’s view of adolescence involves a time when the “Oedipal motivations of childhood reassert themselves, now dangerously allied with sexual maturity, leading to an upheaval in the psyche that is a necessary part of development but is nevertheless traumatic for adolescents and everyone around them”. Anna also viewed adolescents as normal only if they were abnormal. This is because the stage of adolescents is very hard to determine when it happens and exactly what will happen. Another important point expressed in this article was that emerging adults are constantly suffering from overwhelming senses of helplessness, cluelessness, indecision, apprehension and largely experience hopelessness. This is really the bridge between transitioning into becoming an

When I was growing up, he liked to say, “Son, the most important word in the English language is ‘empathy.’ ” When I told him I was starting a business, his first words were, “Always treat your employees right.” He learned that appreciation the hard way, losing his father at a young age and countless war buddies in the trenches.
