During the time of 3000-1600 B.C. there was three successive cultures, Sumerian, Akkadian, And Babylonian. It was during this time that Sumerians began using clay tablets inscribed with wedges-shaped symbols as a form of writing. It was during this time that people began to transmit information. At this point people no longer had to rely on memory or another person for knowledge. With the invention of writing this provided a meaning of passing down knowledge to future generations (Matthews, et al, 2014). In the beginning the Sumerians needed a method to record deeds for property and a way to record agricultural information. It was during this time that families were settling on property and needed a way to record agricultural information.
