All throughout the country people are arguing whether college athletes should be paid to play sports. These athletes received many scholarships for sports and other academic reasons. Scholarships are money towards one's college fund to go to school and play sports or for academics reasons (Amorose). Athletes that play sports at these Universities are a big insurance liability for the school and Athletic program (Harper). These facilities at the Universities have to put so much money towards the player's food and housing for them. College athletes should not get paid to play. NCAA bylaws require that member institutions verify student-athletes have insurance coverage for athletically related injuries, with limits up to the deductible of the NCAA Catastrophic Injury Insurance Program that is currently $90,000, before they can practice or play (Harper). The money that Universities spend on each student athlete is outrageous. When having to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on each student athlete takes a toll to most colleges and makes big dents in their cap space for their university. The NCAA provides all student-athletes at all active member institutions coverage under the catastrophic program, and the NCAA pays 100 percent of the current $13.5 million premium. This program provides $20 million in lifetime benefits to student-athletes who become totally disabled while practicing or playing (Harper). The NCAA’s Catastrophic Program is one of the most comprehensive sport-related programs of its kind. Any injury occurring during an NCAA championship event would be covered by NCAA insurance policies from the very first dollar of expense to the last (Harper). Division one universities are seeking to amass the best athletic training resources available. Investment in a new training facility or renovations to an existing one is largely seen as a necessity for premier football programs (Parks). Having a wow factor on all of the college athletes is very important to each athletic program. Training facilities are constantly in use and must be designed to be as functional as possible (Parks). Before the facility is even open, players' traffic patterns and how they will use a space must be understood and reflected in the layout. Each university spends a tremendous amount of money and time into each stadium and training facility. Many players complain about not being played to play. But in all reality these universities spend gods plenty of money on the player's facilities each and every year. Training facilities will continue to be multifunctional to accommodate the evolving needs of student-athletes and to help athletic programs remain competitive, but integrating aspects of gameday is steadily becoming more important to the way athletes are trained (Parks).
