INTRODUCTION
We have been task to watch movie Die Hard 4 as our individual assignment and have been told to do a summary report based on the movie that have been watch and based on the movie we need to collect the content of the movie summary based on the rubric given. We watch it in the class for about 1 and a half hour. Below is the summary that I have summarized. McClane is attempting to stop cyber terrorists who hack into government and commercial computers across the United States with the goal to start a "fire-sale" of financial assets.
The F.B.I. responds to a brief computer outage at their Cyber-Security Division by tracing down top computer hackers, finding several of them have been killed. Taking others into protective custody, the F.B.I. asks New York City Police Department detective John McClane to collect Matthew "Matt" Farrell. McClane arrives in time to prevent Farrell from being killed by assassins working for a cyber-terrorist named Mai Linh who was working for her boss and love interest, Thomas Gabriel. En route to Washington, D.C. Farrell reveals that he received a large sum of money from Mai to write an algorithm that can crack a security system.
As they arrive in D.C., Gabriel orders his own crew of hackers to take control of the transportation grids and stock market, while nationally broadcasting a message threatening the United States. Farrell recognizes this as the start of a "fire sale", an attack designed to target the nation's reliance on computer controls, such that "everything must go". McClane and Farrell are taken by police escort to the secure F.B.I. headquarters, but Mai, exploiting the hijacked transportation network, reroutes the convoy into the path of an assault helicopter.
McClane downs the helicopter by launching a police car over a damaged toll booth into it. As McClane and Farrell recover, Gabriel initiates a second broadcast, showing a simulated explosion of the U.S. Capital building, sending the public into panic. Farrell recognizes that the next target of the "fire sale" is likely the power grid, and the two drives to a utility superstation in West Virginia.
When they arrive, a team led by Mai is breaking in and taking over the station's controls. McClane kills all of them, and sends Mai to her death in a vehicle at the bottom of an elevator shaft. He obtains video footage of Gabriel which he relays to the F.B.I. Enraged over Mai's death, Gabriel take remote control of the natural gas distribution system and redirects all of the gas into the station. McClane and Farrell escape before the station explodes, leaving much of the eastern seaboard without power.
Farrell connects McClane with a fellow hacker, Frederick "Warlock" Kaludis , in Baltimore. Warlock, running his computer systems from several generators, identifies the piece of code Farrell wrote as a means to access data at a master Social Security Administration building at Woodlawn. They realize the building is actually a U.S. National Security Agency facility, designed by Gabriel when he worked for the NSA as a backup facility for the nation's entire personal and financial records. The site is designed to be used in the event of a cyber-security emergency just like the one Gabriel has generated.
Warlock tells McClane and Matt that Gabriel is a extremely talented programmer who was a top security expert for the U.S. Defence Department. Gabriel tried to alert the politicians and military leadership to critical weaknesses that left America's network infrastructure open to cyber warfare. To prove his point, he hacked into the system "with just a laptop" during a National Security Agency meeting, but was fired for his actions, leaving his reputation ruined.
Warlock runs a trace route and attempts to identify Gabriel's location. When Warlock hacks into Gabriel's systems, he is detected. Gabriel taps into their connection and speaks with Warlock, Farrell, and McClane. He reveals that he has located McClane's daughter, Lucy and intends to kidnap her.
McClane and Farrell race to the Woodlawn facility. As McClane deals with Gabriel's men, Farrell discovers that Gabriel is downloading all the information onto a portable computer system, and he is able to encrypt the data before Gabriel's can access it. Gabriel is forced to take Farrell as they escape the facility.
McClane follows, hijacking Gabriel's semi. He gets Warlock's help to trace Gabriel's own vehicle. With McClane in pursuit, Gabriel accesses the communication system of a U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II. Pretending he is Air Traffic Control, he orders the pilot to attack the truck McClane is driving. McClane is able to escape the assault when pieces from the damaged truck fall into the jet intake of the aircraft from a highway exit ramp.
McClane makes his way to a nearby warehouse where Warlock has tracked Gabriel. Though McClane dispatches most of Gabriel's men, Gabriel's last henchman, Emerson, wounds McClane in the shoulder. When Gabriel holds McClane from behind, McClane gains control of Gabriel's weapon and shoots Gabriel through his own shoulder, killing Gabriel. Farrell then kills Emerson, shooting him with a weapon that had fallen to the floor earlier. As the F.B.I. arrives to tend to McClane and Farrell's wounds and clean up, McClane pretends to be displeased when he sees that Lucy and Farrell have developed romantic feelings for each other.
Conclusion of the movie story is that I learn by knowing about the threats and attacks that possibilities may be launch by the attacker. I alsi learn about ethical issues regarding computing environment to ensure limitation while exposing with the computing environment. Lastly, I learn about a few existing technology tools as a defender to secure the network environment.

It means to ensure that computer-related assessed only by authorized parties. That only those who should have access to something actually get that access. By “access”, its mean not only reading but also viewing, printing, or simply knowing that a particular asset exists. Some time it also called secrecy and privacy. It’s an asset that are accessible to authorized parties at appropriate times. In other words, if person or system has legitimate access to a particular set of objects, that access should not be prevented. For this reason, available is sometimes known by its opposite, denial of service (DOS). This can be seen in the movie where by theres a time where the FBI thought the system was hack with DOS from the terrorist but end up it was back door instated of DOS.
Threats and attack.
Every time a home PC or small home/office network goes online, it connects to thousands of unknown networks and millions of their users. Connecting to Internet provides the opportunities to communicate and share information with others. But it also gives opportunities to Internet users that are involved in malicious activities. Its often believed by many that they don't possess anything that would be of any interest to intruders. But in most of the computer attacks, these computers are used as launching pads to spread viruses, worms and other attacks. They just serve as one link in a chain of multiple compromised systems. From the movie Die Hard 4, we can see that they use several kind of threat. 1) Interception. * Some authorized party has gained access to an asset. The outside party can be a person, a program or a computing system. For example in this movie is where a team led by Mai is breaking in and taking over the station's controls and another example where by Gabriel accesses the communication system of a U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II. Pretending he is Air Traffic Control, he orders the pilot to attack the truck McClane is driving. 2) Interruption. * An asset of the system become lost, unavailable, or unusable. For example from this movie is when Mai send virus to erasure program data file and it make US system malfunctionfor a while.

3) Modification * An unauthorized party not only access but tempers with an asset. Example where Gabriel orders his own crew of hackers to take control of the transportation grids and stock market, while nationally broadcasting a message threatening the United States. For the stock market they manipulated the data so that it looks like the share on it is bankcrupt. And also when Gabreal hacker crew modify the video and transmit it through Television station about the message to scared the people of US.

4) Fabrication * Creation of counterfeit object on an asset.The intruder may insert spurious transaction to network communication system or add records to an existing database. Example: Mai use malicious code such as virus at the beginning of the movie ang the computer activated the boom c4 electronic that connect with the online Cyber-Security Division by tracing down top computer hackers, finding several of them have been killed by it. 2) Backdoor and Denial-of-service(DOS)-Backdoor -Using a known or previously unknown and newly discovered access mechanism, an attacker can gain access to a system or network resource through backdoor.- Denial-of-service(DOS)- The attacker sends a large number of connection or information request to a target.So many request are made that the target become overloaded and cannot respond to legitimate request for service.Example: This can be shown where the FBI thought they have been hack using Denial-of-service(DOS), but actually the terrorist use the cracked backdoor to interrupt the system. 3) Password cracked- attempting to reverse- calculate a password. Example: Farrell reveals that he received a large sum of money from Mai to write an algorithm that can crack a security system. 4) Brute force- the application of computing and network resource to try every possible combination of option of a password. Example: Farrell crack and try and error the password and identifies the piece of code Farrell wrote as a means to access data at a master Social Security Administration building at Woodlawn. 5) Man –in-the-middle- an attacker monitor packets from network, modify them and insert them back into the network. Example: when Gabriel’s team hacker transmit the message through IP address.Security TechnologyTheres several security technology involve in this movie. They are; 1) Road assist- where Farrell act to start the car by not destroy the car system. 2) Portable computer system-Gabriel download all the information onto a portable computer system, and he is able to encrypt the data before Gabriel's can access it. Gabriel is forced to take Farrell as they escape the facility. 3) False arlam- is manipulate by Mai so that all the US Gov. stuff out from the office and get distract the Gov. serve while everyone is out of the bulding. 4) PDA- Farrell use PDA to connect to the server while the power supply and satellite has been un cut off.Ethical Issues.Ethics is refers to sense of honesty and dishonesty We can see that there’s a lot of ethical issues have been involved in this movie.
