We conducted an interview with Danica Smith who is a member of Boston University’s Global Medical Brigades. She has volunteered multiple times in Honduras, Guatemala’s neighboring country, and gave us great insight about her experiences working with the Honduran people. Smith explained that while the Hondurans are always very welcoming and happy to the volunteers, they truly didn’t believe they needed their help. Moreover, she advised that we have to recognize that their standards of living are very different from ours. Because of these differences, Smith had to get creative in her work to ensure she was having a lasting impact on the Honduran people.
