...After reading Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States, I have been left with many mixed emotions. I agree with points he makes and disagree with others. In a way, I think I have somewhat of a neutral opinion of him with a slight dislike. Overall, I think my personal view of him is more on the dislike side, and my view of this type of history is that it is very controversial because it depends on which side you look at. To...

...The first chapter of Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States sets the tone of the rest of the book—as any well written opening to a text of this sort should—and gives the reader a clear idea of its perspective on the history of the United States. The text simultaneously broadcasts facts and theories from historians while providing thought provoking commentary on it. This is primarily why I was so interested in this text. In particular, I found Zinn’s choice to tell the story of the United Sates through the eyes of the victims, the complete disregard for the Native Americans by the Puritans, and how life for those in the League of Iroquois seemed utopian fascinating. First, I will touch on my interest in Zinn’s decision on how...

...Reflective Summary: Review and reflect on the Health Insurance Billing and Reimbursement Discussion Board. Based on your review and reflection of new learnings in this course, write at least 400–600 words on the following: * What have you learned from others' responses? * What were the most compelling points from the interaction with your fellow students? * How did participating in this discussion help in your understanding of the Discussion Board task? * What approaches could have yielded additional valuable information in the students' networking? * What is still unclear after the discussion with your classmates that needs to be clarified? During week ones discussion board assignment, we discussed the different types of health insurance billing and reimbursement methods. This discussion board assignment required taking the time to research the history of health insurance and how it has evolved over the years to the system that we know it as today. By utilizing the discussion board portion of this class, I was able to learn many things from my classmates’ postings. I learned the many different methods of healthcare reimbursement that is still currently used today. I learned the history of health insurance, and why it was developed for the patients in the first place. I also learned many different views and opinions of my classmates that allowed me to reconsider and further educate myself on the views of the future of the healthcare industry. The most...

...Leadership Development Seminars and ECQ-based Readings The success or failure of any endeavor depends on leadership. Now, more than ever before, we need leaders in our organizations and in our world. Great leaders create and communicate a vision and move people into action to achieve it. They ignite our passion and inspire us to do our best. Government leaders in the 21st century are experiencing change at a more rapid pace than previous generations. Rapid advances in technology have expanded the quantity of work we are capable of accomplishing, and also where it’s accomplished. We have a more highly educated workforce, yet face diminishing resources with an increased demand for productivity, and the essential services we provide to the American public. To be successful at navigating these challenges leaders must develop the essential skills to motivate their employees, effectively communicate with others, fine-tune critical thinking skills, and build and leverage partnerships. Future leaders must also be visionary; i.e., possess the ability to identify trends and the courage to be innovative. Being technically adept in your field will no longer be enough. In response to these demands on senior executives, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management identified five Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) that all aspiring government leaders and executives must possess. These ECQs and Fundamental Competencies were developed by OPM after extensive research on the attributes...
