In Beware of the Dog, By Roald Dahl, a British pilot from WWII loses his leg. On his way to base he realizes that he is about to lose consciousness. He ejects himself out of the plane, and becomes senseless. He wakes up in a hospital that he is informed is in Brighton. He questions if the location he has been told is actually correct, particularly after hearing JU-88s, German bombers, during the day. Another event that allows the pilot to doubt the whereabouts of the hospital happened during the bath the nurse was giving him when she comments on how hard the water is. He reflects on a time when he was younger when he would have to wash himself twice, because of the softness of the water. His thirst for correct knowledge lead him to crawl agonizingly
