L. Lamar Nisly discusses how his trip to China was a chance for his daughter to reconnect with her foster mother and visit her birthplace. This reminded me of William Christenberry’s section in Spark. Christenberry was born in Alabama, and even after moving several times, something about Alabama kept him coming back for over thirty years to take pictures. This concept of not forgetting where you come from will help me establish my academic identity. Although I am thirteen hours from my hometown, I still have a support system of people there who give me courage to branch out and explore myself. Remembering this will help me during my time at Bluffton. Another theme echoed throughout Spark, as well as the introduction to Becoming a Scholar,
