Summary of “Should School Start Later?” by Lisa M. Herrington In her article “Should School Start Later?” Lisa M. Herrington (2015) describes the benefits and drawbacks of starting school at a later time of day.
She begins her piece by discussing the positives of a later school start time. Herrington first states that starting school too early takes away the sleep that is necessary for kids. She then goes on to discuss how the grades, test scores, and attendance of students at school increase when students get enough sleep at night. Afterwards, Herrington mentions that schools should not have an early start time because teenagers are programmed to stay up and go to bed late.
