Lucy Grealy’s essay ”Masks”, discusses how she had to deal with harassment and her self image throughout her life. In her essay it shows that after a whiles she learns that nobody will expect her face so it was up to her to build that self confidence. The part that resonates with me the most is when she got picked on at school. “Hey, girl, take off that mask- oops, she's not wearing a mask!” (42). I could of imagine the pain and suffering she dealt with. Kids are not nice they always want to bring someone down for no reason just to satisfy themselves . Another quote that got me was at the end of the essay when she went to the hospital and her roommate was complaining. “After all, she'd lived, hadn't she?...so what was the big fuss about?”(47).
