Papa’s Parrot, written by Cynthia rylant is a story about a father-son relationship that takes place in a candy shop.
Harry Tillian started disliking candies or nuts around the age of seven, even though his father, Mr. Tillian, owns a candy and nut shop. They get along together just fine, Harry Tillian liked his Papa. Harry had always visited his father’s shop after school along with his friends.
As Harry entered junior high school, he didn’t visit his father, nor did his friends.
The same year that Harry turned twelve, was the same year that Mr. Tillian bought a parrot and named it Rocky. As Mr. Tillian grew to like Rocky, he talked to his more often than humans, which embarrassed Harry.
