She has many novels that received rewards but Calico Bush is the one that is the most liked by readers. This novel will be about a young woman named Marguerite.
Marguerite is a French woman who lives in Le Havre. She and her grandparents plan to move to the New World. The boat ride to the Americas takes a toll on them. As they arrive Marguerite's grandfather dies due to a sickness. They then go to a town where the grandmother dies as well. Left with no parents Marguerite gets taken in…show more content… They do treat her as an outcast to the family since she is French. They make their way to another part of the New World and decide to settle there. They had a few complications on the way there but make it safely and even get a new dog in the family. As they make it on land they realize Indians have burned down the house they were going to move into. They meet with the neighbors and get a warning to not settle on that part of the land. They refuse to listen to them and build a house anyway. Marguerite takes care of the family's children and plays with them often. Once the family is finished putting a roof on the house, they decide to throw a huge party and invite all the surrounding neighbors. Marguerite plays with the dog and kids outside into the words where they almost get mauled by a bear. They escape safely. Around this time it is the beginning of winter and times are hard for them. They all sleep together close to the fireplace to stay alive and not freeze to death. One of the children which happens to be the baby dies from burning in the fire. The rest of them survive
