The short story called The Drummer Boy of Shiloh written by ray bradbury and a short article by Carolyn Reeder have many similarities. It explains that many people were barely out of the milkshed the meaning of that is because young children would milk the cows. On the drummer boy of Shiloh many boys would come from far away and enlist in the army but back then they didn't have birth certificates and they would just say that they are over 18. The Drummer Boy of Shiloh explains that many people thought the war was not dangerous and they think the other army will just give up.
