Process Improvement

...MBA 6022 Strategic Operations Management U02a1 Process Improvement Natasha Lynch Problem Statement Growth at the Toyota Motor Company skyrocketed with the opening of new subsidiaries from India and China to the U.S. and Brazil, which led to a strain on the company’s resources leading the company to misread the market, produce faulty products and to build underutilized plants. A program known as Construction of Cost Competitiveness for the 21st century was also introduced, to cut cost at every stage, by reducing the components in a car to 50%. Further along more aggressively than the latter, was the introduction of a Value Innovation strategy which promised savings by making the entire production process cheaper by trimming parts. With these cost saving mechanisms, Toyota also sort to seek a targeted global market share of 15% by 2010, whereby replacing GM from its number one position. Due to this growth, foundational philosophies like safety, and quality were undermined as focus was placed primarily on volume. This resulted in a series of vehicle recalls from 2006 spanning to approximately 4 years. Toyota refused to acknowledge complaints of faulty mechanics in their automobiles, and was slow to take appropriate actions. Background of Recall Crisis In 1999, 3.3 million vehicles were affected as the engines on some models like the Camry, Corollas were prone to oil gelling or sludging. Another issue occurred during the period 2003 to 2004 where more vehicles...

Critical Analysis

...A CRITICAL REVIEW OF AN ANOREXIA NERVOSA RESEARCH Institution: Name: Tutor: Date: TABLE OF CONTENTS INTRODUCTION AND LITERATURE REVIEW 3 PURPOSE STATEMENT REVIEW 5 RESEARCH METHOD REVIEW 6 RESULTS ANALYSIS 7 DISCUSSION ANALYSIS 8 SUMMARY REVIEW 8 REFERENCE 10 INTRODUCTION AND LITERATURE REVIEW Factoring that AN is fast rising disease that cannot be treated by common medicine, there is a great need for further information on what it entails. According to the research, the project seeks to further understand what fosters the development of Anorexia Nervosa. This disease is a behavioral disease, meaning that it can be treated and stopped and the research is proving that significant steps can be made towards eradication or maybe just simply minimized. It is terribly sad that this is a disease suffered by women and it is proving very hard to deal with due to the exaltation of the human being physical and thus making people with little self esteem grow up knowing that. This research will prove instrumental as it seeks to create an alternative approach to the said disease. The literature review was not very thorough and comprehensive factoring the number books, references made in the entire book. Some may be of the opinion that a lot of literature material was used in the research, but the fact one uses the same types of book and material doesn’t make them to be thorough but rather biased (Halawi, 2005). The researchers and the literature review were thus biased as the books used...

...Davis Red Bull 11/1/2012 Executive Summary Red Bull makes a premium energy drink for students, drivers, clubbers, business people, and athletes around the world to revitalize their bodies and minds. Problem: Red Bull, the leader in the energy drink sector of the soft drinks market, has seen its market share drop from 75% in 1998 to 47% in 2005. For the first time in the young energy drink sector, competitors have developed a legitimate share of the market: Hansen Natural’s Monster with an18% share and Rock Star with a 16% share. What actions need to be taken in order for Red Bull to solidify its market leader position? Answer: Red Bull should create a line extension offering either a diet drink to appeal to the recent trend of health conscious consumers or a new flavor while also changing their price point to be more sensitive to the consumer. By doing this, it will allow Red Bull to fight its competition in a very similar fashion to how they began to lose their market share (competitive pricing and a variety of options). Rationale: Red Bull has the strongest brand awareness in the energy drink segment which provides instant credibility to any line extension they may come out with. Red Bull has the extensive distribution network to make sure the product reaches the consumer no matter where they are. Market trends are currently in Red Bull’s favor as they show the customer wants options; giving Red Bull the perfect opportunity to develop a new product. Red Bull has...

Chanel Fashion Analysis

...Burberry square by Diane O'Brien June 16, 2003 Even if you don’t recognize the Burberry name, chances are you’re familiar with the company’s signature plaid. The trademark red, camel, black and white checked pattern adorns everything from scarves to coats to umbrellas. If you happen to view one of these items while still on a store shelf, you can count on it having a shockingly high price tag attached. |   | | |   | This London-based brand dates back to 1856 when it was founded by Thomas Burberry. Now known more for its style, early attention focused more on function -- Burberry invented gabardine, a durable, breathable and waterproof fabric. Ernest Shackleton was even outfitted in Burberry during his 1914 expedition across Antarctica. Several decades later the famous check was introduced (1924), and shortly thereafter, trademarked. (Someone obviously had a keen understanding of the counterfeit value in the signature look.) Burberry’s rabidly vigilant copyright department is still thriving to this day (see threatening trademark section at Burberry.com). The small UK brand didn't cross the pond until the 1970s when it opened a flagship store in the appropriately posh location of the Upper East Side of Manhattan. At this point the narrow product line expanded from coats to scarves, umbrellas and luggage. Despite worldwide reach (stores in upscale locales only), by the 1990s the brand started to look like your grandmother’s pocketbook. Burberry turned to Rosemary Bravo...

Breckenridge Brewery

...Cresente G. Siglos Jr. MBA 231- StratMan Brewing Change at Breckenridgre Brewery Summary of the Case Back in the 1980s, founder Richard Squire was your typical ski bum – with one significant difference. He had a knack for making extraordinary home brews. For years, only his closest friends were able to enjoy his creations, but it didn’t take long for Richard to realize that his talents needed to be shared with the world. Craft Brewing represented a “blend of art and science” where focus was on variety, freshness, and quality. By only using the purest and finest ingredients, no adjuncts, and no pasteurization, these brewers felt that the quality of craft beers stood apart from the mass production of other more prominent beers. In 1994, Ed Cerkovnik joined Breckenridge Brewery as a 50/50 partner. Most of the people at Breckenridge Brewery agreed that Ed was “brilliant” and looked to for leadership.” Since his arrival at Breckenridge Brewery, Ed had provided legal counsel, credibility with various sources of financing, as well as deals structuring and negotiating skills, and had been looked to as the unofficial COO of the company. Ed had been a partner in the law firm that represented Breckenridge Brewery when he decided to make the move from law to business. Richard provided a great deal of vision and creativity while Ed provided discipline and strong analytical skills. Ed’s first tasks were to consolidate ownership, raise new capital, and solidify license and development...

When his store’s warehouse suffered from a water leak, Paul asked his friend, Roger, who is also the warehouse manager in the area to help. Four weeks after the accident in the warehouse, the finance people told Paul that his store made it to the first place in the month. But Paul thought it was just the readjustment people in finance make a change to the worth of parts of the company, without buying or selling anything. Caroline discussed the great change happened in Paul’s store, she believed fewer shortages was the driving force behind the increased sales, but Paul hold the idea that it only did a little for the increasing sales. Paul also wondered why did the number of shortage take a nosedive, and all Paul had done was to transfer stock from one place to another. The next day, after checking on the system, Paul realized that more of these items were available in the store accounted for the large increase in sales.
