The article “Zidane, World Cup Soccer, Globalization, and the Media” had some great points but the three main points that really stood out to me was the marginalization of developing countries, National Identity and Global Sports Events, and the image of Zidane and Algeria.
Marginalization of developing countries
The first point that was made in this article was the impact of marginalization on developing countries. Marginalization is limiting a certain country or group of people to a certain level of power. The authors states that marginalization of developing countries is not understood, because little work is done to try and understand what is going on. The first point that really stood out to me was about how the media has such a strong impact on the viewers and listeners who pay attention to these stories. In this article it talked about the way how the media plays a part in the uplifting or destroying these developing countries. I strongly believe that this is true because being a consumer of the media whenever I see countries that are up and coming they look bad and are asking for help. You can see this when they show countries like in Africa, but when they show countries in Europe they are shown in a positive light. Developing countries in the media are much marginalized, most of the time you won’t even see a story about a developing country unless it is something major. Countries that are marginalized find a hard time to get out of the margin because they are not given the same chances and oppurtunities. In the media factors like how wealthy the country is plays a major role. The more money a country has the better off they are and will have a greater impact in the
