S.A.V.E. is a non-profit organization that aims to serve victims of domestic violence. Before she came to her current position at S.A.V.E., she first began working in retail, specifically management. Afterwards, Ms. Kapis worked as a nanny. Over the course of her time as a full and part-time nanny, she worked for a total of 64 families. Homelessness Plan

...Deborah Mager Dr. Bliss Engl. 101 11/22/11 Homelessness Plan There are so many children who are homeless each year with their families. Lucy Smith is one such child. She lives in a car with her mother after they lost their home. This past August, when the back to school lists came out, her mother couldn’t even afford to get her all the supplies she needs. Children at school make fun of her for being homeless and Lucy’s teacher kept asking her where her supplies were. Every morning, they go into a store to use the bathroom to get ready for the day. At least three nights a week, they try and go to a friend’s house to take a shower and wash their clothes. Her mother is looking for a job, but it’s hard to get hired when they don’t always have the cleanest clothes and an address. Lucy is just one child affected by homelessness, but there are many more, just like her. Unemployment is a major factor in homeless families ending up on the streets. The U.S Department of Labor claims that in 2010 there were at least 9.8 million families with an unemployed member. When the economy crashed, many people lost their jobs or received reduced hours. For many families, that caused them to get behind in paying rent or the mortgage. It was especially bad for the minimum wage workers who were already on the verge of homelessness before they lost their jobs. Another problem contributing to homelessness is the mortgage crisis. A Medill School report found that in October 2007, Illinois ranked...

...Executive Summary Some manufacturers may have a hard time in dealing with international supplier, especially when the product is shipped from the very long distance country. The delay of shipment may not be a new issue and not regularly happened; however, this problem has been brought up to the writer’s attention since it can create a substantially significant loss to the firm. In this report, we will cover the case of the logistic problem from the Bunge Company. The case was about the raw material shortage, regarding to the supplier’s shipment delay. The company imports the raw material, soybean, from Brazil to China. The interesting issue about this case is the decision-making process with the long transportation period and the relatively large volume of shipment. The information is gathered based on the interview with one of the company’s deputy managers. Generally the factors involved in the delay of shipment are various and cannot be clearly identifiable. However, after making some assumption about the potential problem, we came to conclusion that the most significant cause of problem is the lack of communication between the manufacturer and the supplier. Our suggestion to this problem is therefore divided into two stages. At the beginning, we suggest the manufacturer to attempt to improve coordination. Then, if the problem still exists, the company may consider two following approach; (1) Changing order plan or (2) Finding a secondary domestic supplier. The further detail...
