Summary: Should Partial Credit Be Awarded On Tests?

In her article, Should Partial Credit Be Awarded on Tests? Lynne Gregorio asks just that. “This is a debatable subject. Math teachers seem to be on one side or the other” (Gregorio). While some teachers think that tests should be graded on the correctness of the final answers only, others believe that if the student has the correct concepts but makes a simple calculator error, then they should get partial credit. This makes sense. One should not penalize a student for pressing the wrong button on the calculator. I believe that teachers should award partial credit on tests because giving partial credit proves what students actually knows, gives positive feedback to help improve their attitudes and efforts, and doesn’t penalize students for making simple calculator errors.
Partial credit should be awarded to students because it shows what the students actually know. What they actually know may be how to do the wanted concept, or it may be a different concept but the concept still works. “Partial credit is not awarded evenly ”(Gregorio). So, The student who knew how to do the wanted concept, but got the answer wrong, would get more credit than the student who got the right answer but did not do the wanted concept because the test was over the concept and not on getting the right answers. Therefore, when awarding partial credit, it is fair to …show more content…
“They must earn their grades but if you give them positive feedback… they will respond with a better self-image about mathematics which in return will improve their efforts, attitude, study habits, and hence their grades”(Gregorio). If students see that their efforts were not completely wasted, and that they are making improvements, then they may not feel so bad about the answers that they missed, but they will feel good about the concepts that were counted right. It also releases some stress about grades when they see that they aren’t completely

...Traditional On Campus Class Welcome to the Traditional On Campus version of Speech 103 Oral Communication! I look forward to getting to know each of you. Over the years, I have learned that many of you dread taking this class (don’t worry I felt the same way when I had to take this class) but I hope that you will find your worries to be unfounded. I work very hard to try to create a comfortable learning environment, primarily because I need you to participate in order for this class to work. This is a participatory-based class where we will all work together to help each other improve our communication skills. Consequently, you will play an active role in your own learning as well as active role in the learning of the other students in this class. Research has shown that when you are an active participant in a class you increase how much you remember as well as how much you can recall after the semester has ended. However, I have found that when you are an active participant in my class you will look forward to coming to each class session and your fears of public speaking will soon decrease. Since this class is participatory, you will find that you will put a lot of thought and effort into this class. Much learning will occur both in class and out side of class. However, while this class is demanding, I hope that you will both enjoy this experience and learn a great deal about communication, how you communicate, and how to be a better...

...Small Business Introduction “Ensuring small businesses can thrive is about more than economic success. It’s also about who we are as a people. It’s about a nation where anybody who’s got a good idea and a willingness to work hard can succeed. That’s the central promise of America.” “Small businesses are leaders in innovation and drivers of the economy. Small businesses hold more patents than all of the nation’s universities and largest corporations combined, and create two thirds of all private sector jobs, employing half of all working Americans. The Federal government is the largest buyer in the world, spending over $500 billion each year. For the Federal government contracting with small businesses is common sense. Small businesses get the revenue they need to create jobs and drive the economy forward, and federal agencies get the creativity, innovation, and technical expertise of small businesses to help accomplish their mission. When small businesses are excluded from federal contracts, the Federal government, American taxpayers, and the nation’s economy lose out.” Interagency Task Force on Federal Contracting Opportunities for Small Business Objectives • Identify the elements of the Department of Defense (DoD) Small Business Program for defense acquisitions to include the overall policy and regulations, small business goals, small business size standards, non-manufacturer rule, and North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) codes. • Identify...

...MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA) (Revised) 1. The Program: The importance of „management‟ as a professional study can today be compared with that of obtaining a normal graduate degree in order to be called educated. It is just short of becoming a compulsion. Businesses and institutions are growing in complexity and size. They are cutting across space and time by embracing technology, globalization and information. Mere operational efficiency is no more sufficient. Managerial capabilities have become necessary for firms to act on a global platform. Although there are a large number of institutions offering MBA programs, many of them just churn out non employable MBAs. A good institute must incorporate what the industry requires with changing times. The SMU way to Management degree or diploma is to mould the learning towards this objective. With this perspective it has introduced several programs which are geared to meet the industry requirement. These areas are Banking, Information System, Retail Operations and Healthcare. It is planning to offer more programs in the field of environment, disaster management, and media. The master of business administration (MBA) is an integrated program designed to provide an advanced program in management for those seeking managerial positions in industry, commerce and services. The core subjects are aimed at developing knowledge and skills in fundamental management disciplines. The program also involves participation in group work with...
