Kids used to spend their hours after school outside with their friends or possibly doing the occasional chore. However, with the current educational climate, those fun days spent outside in the sun with friends are one in a million. There’s always too much to do and too little time. Students of all ages are facing a new level of pressure to take the hardest classes, do extracurriculars, and work on those things in any spare time in order to compete with their piers. The thought of summer break is often times the only thing that gives a student any hope of a good night's sleep and a chance to decompress. Students should be given the opportunity to take the summer off from learning new things because the assignments never end up being beneficial and can give the student a false preface of what the class has to offer. …show more content…
They use the extended break to go places and see people that they usually don’t have the chance to see. That means that they won’t be in a place where they can accomplish beneficial work in and “In order for any learning to be retained, there has to be engagement on the part of the students” (Crawford). In the chaotic time that is summer break, that engagement is hard to come by. The purpose of summer work should be to “utilize skill sets they have been engaged with all year” (Krieger). That way, they whole idea of the “summer slide,” a phrase used to describe intellectual loss during the summer, can be negated without forcing students to spend hours and hours doing work that they have no clue how to approach (ED). Your first draft is always for yourself and your own personal reflection. In your second draft, “open up the doors” and write for everyone else who will be reading it. Without this solid piece of advice, I don’t think I could have ever expanded on my writing at all. Over the years, my writing career has hit its peak in junior year, and I have plateaued from there. Since being a UCWR student, I have had the chance to expand my range in my writing skills. From this course, I have learned to expand my writing ability to subjects I would never have broached before, allowing myself to heighten my awareness of the world around me as well as hinder my procrastination. In the beginning of the year, I was very disappointed I would have to take this course. From my previous experience with accelerated English and rhetoric courses, I felt I would be bored and disappointed with the classroom experience. The ordering of names is indicative of both their working style as superheroes as well as their living arrangement, which caused a great deal of controversy both in the context of the novel and some of the historical events it references.
