...Writer’s Reflection When I heard the assignment for Inquiry Two, I was quite excited. I had heard of “Waiting For Superman,” but had never really had the chance to watch it. The topic of it is something that I am extremely passionate about and was eager to learn more about. So I happily watched the documentary and quickly whipped out a first draft (rough rough draft) without even really having to think about it- the words just poured out. However, when writing my real rough draft, I tried to focus a bit more on the rhetorical appeals. My revision process on Inquiry Two was much more rigorous than my typical revision process. At my meeting with Bridget for my conference on my rough draft of Inquiry 2, she had me read my paper aloud. Reading it out loud made me realize how focused the paper really was on my thoughts and my opinions on the topic of the documentary. There was way too much emphasis on my thoughts on the public school systems of America, and not nearly enough rhetorical analysis of the documentary. I wrote what felt like millions of drafts and printed them all out and scribbled all over them. I also used Bridget as resource and took her ideas and comments into considering my final draft. Overall, I tried to focus the paper much more on a rhetorical analysis of the film instead of my own opinions on the issue (those can come in Inquiry Three!). ...com, "Personality is the mixture of relatively permanent personal characteristics in the way a person constructs the world, acts in it and reacts to it." By taking a simple test you will be able to figure out where you fall on the personality spectrum whether you are an extrovert or introvert, sensitive or intuitive, whether you choose feeling over thinking, or if you are a judger or perceiver. After taking the Myers Briggs Personality test, I became more aware of my personality and what career path would be most suitable for me. I am an ENFJ, which stands for; extrovert, intuitive, feeling, and judging. Overall, I am very tuned into the feelings of others, responsible and tend to be a leader. Loyal, responsive, and sympathetic are some of the other traits that I possess. When I first read through the description on both the handout in class and further online on kiersey.com, I could not believe how accurate it was. One of the most accurate reflections of my personality was on personalitydesk.com where they described ENFJ’s as “quick to devote themselves entirely to helping a friend, and are hurt deeply when the sentiment is not reciprocated.” I am always willing to help my family and friends wholeheartedly and never hesitate, but I believe that if you do someone a favor that that favor at some point should be returned when needed. As the optimistic person that I am, I always try to find the good in people and hold them to their highest abilities. Although I agree with all...

...able to pick up and put on clothes of any sort and call it an “outfit”. What I’m talking about though, is the ability to express myself in the way I want to, and not be tied down by any social or cultural norms. These norms include the underlying features of the American population and what the majority of people around me value at this very moment. If I simply conform to these norms and wear what everyone else is wearing, then I have not dress myself, but rather dressed the typical white American male of today’s society. Now, it is possible that I may just be the typical white American male of today’s society; so it is crucial to be able to define “myself” before I can analysis how I dress that self. According to Friedrich Nietzsche, “myself” can be whatever I make it to be. In Nietzsche’s THUS SPAKE ZARATHUSTRA, Zarathustra tells the people around him that they were born men, but a man “is a bridge and not a goal” (4.4). Here, Nietzsche is referring to the bridge between the animal and the Superman. He believes that we are all born as animal, like sheep, and it should be our goal in life to give up our sheepish lives and adventure over the bridge to Superman. This path is very dangerous, which is why most humans do not dare to even attempt to cross it. I believe that I am not one of those people as well. Nietzsche wanted to seek suffering, and that through this discomfort you will find the will, the power over the self to thrive in this world where “God is dead”. I currently...

...far off in the distance. The ability this painting has to capture the eye is amazing and unique, and allows you to fully appreciate the Impressionist Art Movement. The scene that is portrayed here is one of a woman sitting on the grass above banks of the River Seine. The woman’s hat is on her right hand side and both are covered in a patch of shade. To her left hand side is an enormous tree that provides the shade for her and the lawn. The woman is looking away ahead with her back turned towards us. In the river ahead you can see a couple in a small boat rowing down the river. You can also see the reflection of the house in the house in the water that is covered by the trees. This painting has a fresh and relaxed tone/feeling to itself. My initial reaction was impressed. I feel as Claude did an excellent job with the oil. What really impressed me was how was able to put a reflection in the water. There is nothing really new present in his style in this painting. I’ve look at several of paintings from this artist and he’s pretty consistent with his style. If you compare The Seine at Giverny, 1897 and Poplars on the Epte, 1900, to this painting...

...to read many insightful and inspiring books associated with my journey toward the final goal of getting my degree. My desire is that you might hopefully understand my heartfelt appreciation of the use of Maxwell’s book as part of our curriculum. Of all of the textbooks used in all of the classes I have taken this is absolutely the best textbook I have had to work from. I have only read two other books in my life, scripture notwithstanding, that have engrossed me the way that Maxwell’s has. Both of these other books were introduced to me during a time that I was working towards licensure as a Clinical Pastoral Chaplain. One of those books was by James W. Fowler titled, “Stages of Faith: The Psychology of Human Development” (Fowler, 1981). The other book was written by Douglas John Hall and is titled “God & Human Suffering: An Exercise in the Theology of the Cross.” (Hall, 1986) The reason I bring these books up is because I wanted you to understand the bearing this book has had on my life. Thank you for introducing me to John C. Maxwell. Maxwell highlights the quote at the top page 14 in which he says, “The Only Thing A Title Can Buy Is A Little Time-Either To Increase Your Level Of Influence With Others Or To Undermine It.” When it comes to leadership I do not know that I have ever heard any better explanation, or warning for that matter, than he suggests here. I have been very fortunate in my life to have been around some men and women who I felt were true leaders...

...A wise woman wishes to be no one's enemy; a wise woman refuses to be anyone's victim. -Maya Angelou For all the years that I have developed a consciousness like mine, I was constantly slapped in the face by the incandescent standards of the universe and its littlest portion on how women should be. A woman is always portrayed as a gift from the skies, pretty and elegant, or a royalty in distress saved by a hero who makes her swoon, or an evil witch behind every man's failure. But a woman is not a gift, she is not a possession, she is not an asset. A woman is not someone to be saved, if she is to be protected, then from what? And yes, this paragraph is always present on my feminist articles. The most tiring thing about being a woman is the fact that we should still have to battle for our image as individuals, which is an inflection of how I came into the idea that the purpose of human kind is to breakout from the chains of the stereotypical. Humans try to debunk and destroy what exists, from beliefs to lifestyles and even to the right color of pants to match your socks. This urge to be free is the reason why Jose was shot in a park, why Romeo and Juliet died, and why all the revolutions and wars occurred. Grace Ogot or Grace Emily Akinyi, the Kenyan writer who happens to be the author of the story 'The Rain Came' and many other stories, presented the "Breaking-out" moment through the characters' struggle against the binding chains of traditions and culture. Many of her stories...

...body) and mental substance (the mind). Only humans are such special unities. Animals have bodies but lack minds and angels have minds but lack bodies. Here’s the passage: First, I know that everything which I clearly and distinctly understand is capable of being created by God so as to correspond exactly with my understanding of it. Hence the fact that I can clearly and distinctly understand one thing apart from another is enough to make me certain that the two things are distinct, since they are capable of being separated, at least by God. The question of what kind of power is required to bring about such a separation does not affect the judgment that they are distinct. Thus, simply by knowing that I exist and seeing at the same time that absolutely nothing belongs to my nature or essence except that I am a thinking thing, I can infer correctly that my essence consists solely in the fact that I am a thinking thing. It is true that I may have (or, to anticipate, that I certainly have) a body that is very closely joined to me. But, nevertheless, on the one hand I have a clear and distinct idea of myself, in so far as I am simply a thinking, non-extended thing; and on the other hand I have a distinct idea of body, in so far as this is simply an extended, non-thinking thing. And accordingly, it is certain that I am really distinct from my body, and can exist without it. The key lines are...

...ARTICLE REVIEW FORM Full Reference in Harvard Format:James R. Baker. (1993). Tightening the Iron cage: n Concertive Control in Self- Managing Teams. Administrative Science Quarterly, 38 (3), P208-417 | Summary of main arguments/points: Control has been a major problem in businesses. To achieve a bigger goal some individuals have to sacrifice. Although bureaucracy offers the fairest and most efficient method of control, it can also slow and make the organization a much more inconsistent environment. ISE was the example used by James R. Baker to demonstrate the study of self managing teams. Self management is a group of employees whose job is to plan and manage their work under no supervision. In self management, responsibilities are shared throughout the groups, so employees who were previously managers have become helpers for the team. All the ideas are shared and discussed and the best decision will be taken from the whole group. The self management had a major impact on the way the employees view their job. In ISE they had a bureaucratic system whereas now they are divided into groups and given equal responsibilities. This shows us how the power has shifted from the managers to the workers. In 1988 Jack Tacket vice president of ISE started implementing self managing teams, he divided the employees into 3 different groups (Red, blue and white). Each employee was chosen based on the field that his experienced in. Although problems occurred during the process like employees...

I watch as days, months and years turn into eons. The smell of the warm moist mud reminds me of all those carefree afternoons I spent on my mama’s porch watching the rain pass by. The scorching sun on my face reminds me of the sweetest iced tea my sister used to so carefully prepare. The unflinching rain at times takes me back to the fields where I would play soccer for hours at end with my cousins. The bitter cold within my bones reminds me of the steaming hot barbecue my father would make so passionately, never failing to impress. This man standing outside my cell tells me this is not my country, then why does it feel like I’m right at home? He says I’m not like him, then why do I feel like he’s like me? I, prisoner number 786, stick my head out through these iron bars. I stare towards the heavens as a white fairy descends from the village of dreams. I don’t know who she is, but she talks like she’s all mine. When I listen to her, it feels like I want to go out there and live again. When she makes all those fake promises, she makes me want to believe in myself again. I, prisoner number 786, stick my head out through these iron bars. I see a new me, fulfilling my old promises and weaving new dreams. He asks me why am I empty and why am I angry? He tells me to open my eyes and just focus for a second, tells me my mind is my only...

...Portrayal of Women in Rap and Music Videos :: 4 Works Cited Length: 1724 words (4.9 double-spaced pages) Rating: Blue Price: $24.95 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Misogyny and degradation of women is present in almost every genre of music, yet the one genre that completely revolves around demeaning women is rap. Over the years rap and rap music videos have continually become more sexual and degrading towards women. Rap has been criticized numerous times for this reason, and that is because rap is one of the most popular genres of music for the younger generations. It is more than a genre of music, it is a complete industry filled with clothing and other merchandise. The reason this constant demeaning of women exists is because rap as a genre that rewards the objectification of women. The excuses used to justify the misogyny in rap are incomplete and lack accurate support. The most effective way for this continuous cycle ends, is if the fight and protest comes from the women themselves. Men are the problem in the objectification of women but in order for it to stop, women need to step up and take control of the situation. Women need to act sooner rather than later because in recent years the rap industry has become more and more sexual. Ra... ... middle of paper ... ...Society 113 (2000): 255-69.
