Susan Brownell Anthony’s father, Daniel Anthony, was the managing partner of a cloth mill located in Battenville, New York, and her mother, Lucy Anthony stayed at home to care for Susan and her siblings. Susan was the second oldest child out of eight siblings. One child was stillborn and died when they were two. Suasan often helped her mother bake and sew. She occasionally helped her father in the cloth mill. In the late 1830’s, Mr. Anthony’s business failed, susan returned from School to help around the house, and got a teaching job to help support her family. Susan was inspired to fight for Women’s Rights while protesting alcohol. In 1872, she voted in a presidential election illegally, and was arrested. Susan was charged a fine
