As the agents followed the Suzuki, the car headed towards the outskirts of a town called Abbottabad. The car headed towards a white compound. The compound was very strange in the way that it appeared. It was basically a concrete building with walls (Sanger, 71). Soon this compound became very interesting for the CIA. Afterwards, the CIA took the sky to use satellites and drones around the compound. Other techniques that were used include eavesdropping and satellite radar. The compound was also interesting, because it had no phone or Internet. Eventually, President Obama was informed about the compound in the late summer of 2010. Although his intelligence advisers told him about the compound, they could not confirm of who lived in the compound.

This new science makes an unstable combinations of plant and other living organisms that doesn't occur in nature. Scientists recognized that genes are shared among the individual members of a species, but also among members of different species. All GMOs are made to withstand direct application of herbicide and to make a insecticide. In the mean while, evidence connects GMOs with health problems like environmental damage and violation of farmers’ and consumers’ rights. Agrochemicals are aiming at enhancing crop and protect crops from pests. Every year higher amounts of new chemical compounds are used to...

Bioremediation

...overview of common hydrocarbon pollutants, microbes known as hydrocarbon degraders, major pathways and enzymes involved therein, factors affecting hydrocarbon degradation, and various approaches employed to exploit degrading capacity of microbes for remedial purpose. In addition to making use of inherent catabolic ability of degrader populations, metabolic engineering can be of considerable value in dealing with the problem of hydrocarbon contamination. Keywords: Bioremediation, Oxygenase, Biomagnification, Cometabolism, Consortium, Biosurfactant. Introduction Hydrocarbon (HC) group of compounds consist of hydrogen and carbon in their structure. As petrochemical industries are flourishing worldwide, HC contamination has become one of the major environmental problems faced globally. Environment is particularly being contaminated with accidental releases of petroleum products. Some of the HC compounds can prove carcinogenic and neurotoxic to different life forms. Bioremediation is a promising approach for the treatment of HC contaminated locations as it is cost effective and can lead to complete mineralization. Bioremediation strategy exploits the metabolic pathways of living organisms (mainly...

Then, the aim of this study is to investigate the potential of unit systems packed with this support in terms of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide emissions treatment. Two laboratory scale pilot biofilters were used. A volumetric load of 680 g H2 S mÀ3 empty bed dayÀ1 and 85 g NH3 mÀ3 empty bed dayÀ1 was applied for eight weeks to a unit called BGSn (column packed with granulated sludge and mainly supplied with hydrogen sulfide); a volumetric load of 170 g H2 S mÀ3 empty bed dayÀ1 and 340 g NH3 mÀ3 empty bed dayÀ1 was applied for eight weeks to the other called BGNs (column packed with granulated sludge and mainly supplied with ammonia). Growth Inhibitory Action of Cranberry on Helicobacter Pylori

...GASTROENTEROLOGY Growth inhibitory action of cranberry on Helicobacter pylori Masashi Matsushima,* Takayoshi Suzuki,* Aya Masui,* Kouichi Kasai,† Tomoko Kouchi,† Atsushi Takagi,* Takayuki Shirai* and Tetsuya Mine* *Department of Internal Medicine, Tokai University School of Medicine, Isehara; and †Research and Development Division, Kikkoman Corporation, Noda, Japan Abstract Background and Aim: Cranberry is a fruit that originated in North America, and it has been used by Native Americans for bacterial infections. Recent studies have revealed it to be effective for preventing refractory urinary infections, while also suggesting that it plays a possible role in the eradication of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). Methods: The H. pylori strains used in the present study were NCTC11637 and 11638. Sugar and organic acid-rich, and polyphenol-rich fractions were obtained from cranberry juice concentrate by Amberlite XAD7HP-column chromatography. The H. pylori growth inhibition was estimated by OD660 and titration in liquid culture, and by an agar dilution plate method. The shapes of the bacteria were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. Results: Cranberry extract suppressed bacterial proliferation in a dose-dependent manner. In the comparison with other juices, polyphenol-rich fruits (cranberries, blueberries, and red grapes) showed similar growth inhibitory activity, whereas polyphenol-poor fruits (oranges, pineapples, apples, and white grapes) did not show any...

It is used by the food industry as a soluble dietary fibre and fat or sugar replacement, and in the pharmaceutical industry as a stabiliser and excipient. It can also be used as a precursor in the synthesis of a wide range of compounds. New uses for inulin are constantly being discovered, with recent research into its use for slow-release drug delivery. Inulin, when in a particulate form, possesses anti-cancer and immune enhancing properties. Given its increasing importance to industry, this review explains how inulin's unique physico-chemical properties bestow it with many useful pharmaceutical applications. KEY WORDS: Inulin, polysaccharide, fructose, excipient, vaccine, adjuvant INTRODUCTION á-D-glucopyranosyl-[â-D-fructofuranosyl](n-1)D-fructofuranoside (inulin, shown in Figure 1) is a natural renewable polysaccharide resource with a significant number of diverse pharmaceutical and food applications.
