Parents Joe and Lugenia Ashley’s eight children be apart of the radical, ruthless Ashley Gang. The notorious John Ashley, the self-described “Swamp Bandit”, utilized the Florida Everglades as his escape for their numerous crimes in the 1910s and ‘20s. The Ashley Gang would commit several different styles of criminal activity such as, murder, bank robberies, train robberies, rum running and even kidnapping.
