Chiu a,Ã, Geng Yong b a b Graduate School of Business, De La Salle University, Tatt Avenue, Manila, Philippines Institute for Eco-planning and Development, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian, China Abstract This paper focuses on the current situation in the adaptation and adoption of industrial ecology in Asian Developing Countries (ADCs). The objective of this paper is to consider the possibilities to develop an eco-industrial development (EID) strategy for these developing countries. We review the regional indigenous resources of ADCs and use the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) grouping to classify the preconditions of industrial ecology in ADCs. The authors of this paper argue that unlike the usual way of applying industrial ecology as a technical tool or a practical instrument, ADCs need to adopt industrial ecology as a strategic vision and as a strategic approach to plan the economic, social and ecological development of their national economies. In this way, it can be possible for the ADCs to avoid the same problems that occurred when the developed countries experienced industrialization and rapid economic growth, and move toward more sustainable development. # 2004 Published by Elsevier Ltd. ...Introduction Lenovo was founded in 1984 as one of the institute-sponsored companies in Beijing. It started as the New Technology Development Company (NTD Co.) of the Institute of Computing Technology (ICT) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and considered a pioneer of Chinese market reform in the science and technology sectors. The company’s first technological innovation, a Chinese-language add-on card, was stemmed from ICT researcher Ni Guangnan. The name of the add-on card- Lianxiang- remains the Chinese name of Lenovo to this day. The company expands in Hong Kong that allowed them to raise its capital and overcome Lenovo’s previous experience in the global IT industry with a more international partner. In 1988, the company was restructured into Legend Computer Group Co. In the early 1990’s, the company was the largest among several domestic PC makers. In 1992, as the tariffs on imported PCs in China were reduced and import quotas were eliminated, foreign PC makers had a distinct price advantage over Legend. Consequently, Legend became sales and distributive representatives of American and Japanese computer companies in China. However, this became very strategic for Legend as it developed both technical and management expertise from its Hong Kong operation and from its foreign partners such as HP. Legend gain an advantage in building extensive distribution channels when the Chinese government restricted establishing distribution and retail operations of foreign companies...

N. SETHUMADHAVAN EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Strategy is well explained as the effective use of well laid out plans to achieve success. It is no less of spectacle to attribute strategy to individual achievement, achievement from a company, a country or at the very least a non – financial institute to achieve strategic success. Ford Motor Company has in recent times lost its market share to emerging Asian companies such as Honda, Toyota, Hyundai and Nissan. As a new landscape of economic might surfaces, new car stereotypes are emerging. Finding a place in these segments is proving difficult for Ford Motors and hence need to change its strategies. Hyper-competition combined with tough economic times has pushed Ford to the edge of insolvency. This paper examines the issues that plague the company while using published models to make analysis on how and why the problems occur to better understand their potential impact on the company’s sustainable competitive advantage. Recommendations will seek to give strategic solutions to address the issues identified earlier. This research isn’t structured upon models to identify, analyze and solve issues but rather looks at the core of the problems within Ford Motors...
