Coleman Corporation
Introduction
The Coleman Company is one of the largest sellers of camping equipment and is devoted to inspiring people to get outside. Coleman is committed to their customers, stakeholder and their most important asset the employees. Coleman strives to hire excellent talent inside and outside the company to add to their team of successors. Coleman’s innovation is providing the highest quality products to its customers by following their mission and values which is the core foundation of their success. The Coleman Corporation was created in 1900 with the distribution of a basic Coleman lantern. Later in 1915 Coleman provides lanterns for soldiers in World War I and also back in the United States for farmers and ranchers to work later hours. In 1923 Coleman introduces the camp stove. Products are now reaching all end of the globe and are proving useful for outdoor activities. By the 1930 competitors have started to catch up and the great depression is now showing hardships in the United State. Coleman adapts and changes the product not only to go beyond the competition but to meet the new needs of customers. In 1930 Coleman introduces gas floor lamps and oil space heaters. In 1942 Coleman create the pocket stove for the soldiers in World War II. Today Coleman produces many products for outdoor use including the original lanterns to complete outdoor kitchen sets. The timeline shows how Coleman has evolved over the past years. The values of the corporation are demonstrated through the evolution that was faced by the company. The Coleman Corporation created and evolved products that consumers needed for outdoor use. When the depression hit Coleman had to change the values leading products away from outdoor use. Coleman understood the need for indoor products and adjusted the company’s focus to indoor product. Coleman has shown values of getting people to explore the outdoors by providing products that meet the needs and provide convince for outdoorsman. Coleman evaluated the external and remote environments and found how to best meet the needs of consumers. Coleman vision is to enable the emotional connections that happen when nature, family and friends come together outdoors. Our world class employers do this by creating products that make it easy for consumers to enjoy the outdoors, (Colemancareers.com) As the employee of Coleman the values he or she holds must meet those of Coleman. Coleman has a vision making every consumer, customer, stakeholder see the value they hold within the company. The value and individual holds must match that of Coleman. Employer individual values hold a large part of how the stores are seen. If an employer has a poor set of personal values he or she can over flow into the company. It is imperative that the employees have a strong set of personal values. In many cases employees with strong personal values had a huge asset to a company. Coleman is determined to obtain employees and stakeholders that held the same strong values to add the company. Coleman demands that all employees no matter their position show a strong sense of values and carry themselves. Individuals that have a strong sense of values usually hold themselves with a pride that shines. Individual values are what give a company the reputations that last life times. Should employees be rude and inconsiderate the business is sure to suffer so loss and reputation. Values are the backbone to the company through its employees. Coleman does an adequate job with their strategic alignment as far as their values are stated. Coleman says that its promises and vision directly align with the needs of their consumers. Coleman does a good job creating quality products for outdoor usage. This shows that their vision and values are meeting the standards of which it promised its customers. Coleman’s direct vision is to enable the emotional connections that happen when nature, family, and friends come together outdoors. (Coleman) Coleman is a world-renown organization that not only distributes through third parties, but also has direct vendor stores and outlet centers where you can purchase their products. By making the promise to their customers to provide only the products that it will stand behind and actually following through with them, anyone could easily agree that they are fulfilling all of their promises. Any organization can see growth if they are selling the right products, but it truly takes an organization with a dedication to quality to be able to reference their mission statement every time they conduct business. It is important when writing your core values because it gives you something to reference while conducting business. Coleman has the ability to reach out to their customers and tell them that, “we made a promise, and we’re going to fulfill that promise”. We could not have chosen a better organization to research as they have not had any negative media attention. By staying off the beaten path, Coleman can continue to be an every-day, household name in the outdoor living category. The Coleman Company’s values its’ employees and the people they serve. Their plans and actions show they are a company dedicated to unifying the family through ethical practices (Colemancareers.com). Through the production of their outdoor equipment and the quality of this product, Coleman gives family the ability to enjoy each other’s company outdoors. With continued development of products Coleman furthers their ability to unify the family. With their desire to have ethical practices, Coleman follows the law and treats customers, stakeholders, and its’ employees with respect. Our values as a team follow those of Coleman. We wish to conduct our business in life in an ethical way by not taking short-cuts and following the rules. The only difference in our ethical values is the rules we have to follow. All of us wish the best for our families and do our best to provide happy healthy lives for them. This is no different than Coleman’s value of unifying the family. Coleman wants the family to be together and enjoy their time just as we want to be with our families and have enjoyable times. Who we value in our lives can be seen as our employees and customers. We value the people we work alongside with in life (like a business’s employees) and we value the people we serve such as friends and family (a business’s customers). Our values also reflect the idea of bettering ourselves for the sake of others. We strive to have better knowledge so we can pass it down to our family and aid our employers. We strive for better health so we can better enjoy and lengthen our enjoyment with our family and friends. The Values of the Coleman Company are comprised of the values of the individuals within Coleman, most people value their family and this is why Coleman’s values in a broad scope match ours.
Conclusion
Coleman’s commitment to its customers and employees has made them the company of choice. Coleman’s continually demand for excellence and voyage to provide what the customers’ needs are, is what keeps everyone motivated to produce the best in the outdoor equipment which allowed them to be successful. Coleman’s mission and vision continues to play a major role in their success.
