Undertaking Missions
What drives people to undertake a mission? Billy, Farah Ahmedi, and Ernesto had so much courage and bravery that they overcame their fears and challenges. All three of these people/characters had dangerous or emotional challenges. For example at one point in “Where The Red Fern Grows” Billy was face to face with a mountain lion and it could have killed him, in “Other Side Of The Sky” Farah Ahmedi got her leg blown off by a landmine on her way home from school, and had to walk for days on a prosthetic leg, and in “Barrio Boy” Ernesto is very curious about the principal who only speaks english to which he only speaks Spanish. They all had a goal and they all reached it. In the memoir “Barrio boy” a character named Ernesto undertook a hard mission. Ernesto had so much courage, curiosity, and bravery. He had to go to a new school, learn a new language, and move to a whole new state. Ernesto had so much curiosity because he was really nervous about the principal and he was wondering if she was going to be an enemy or a friend. When Ahmedi was walking home from school she stepped on a landmine and it blew her leg off! With her brother and dad dead from a rocket attack it was just her and her mother. Ahmedi and her mother decided to get out of Afghanistan. The gate to Pakistan was closed and the guards were only letting people in if they had money and that is something that her and her mother did not have. Along the journey they had met a really nice family and the family helped them get through the gate. With Ahmedi’s prosthetic leg it was difficult for her to walk a lot and with her mothers asthma it took them a couple days to get to where they wanted.
