Requirements Determination and Analysis

The TDC Construction Company Requirements Determination:

Analyse of the conduct of the interview:
 In general, what is your view of how the interview was conducted?

Generally the interview was reasonably professional if a little rushed. The good points were: Inez begins well by reviewing the company’s business objectives which she has a grasp of from previous contacts with the company. There seems to be a good understanding on business matters between Inez and Gerry. She ensures that she has a firm understanding of many of the facts that she gathered. E.g. “Now, I understand one of the general objectives of the new information system is to be able to extract reports and inquiries on demand from any browser on a PC, laptop, Blackberry or PDA”. She pauses to jot some details of those facts down The bad points were: Inez seems to have her eye on the clock and she avoids going into detail on some of the new areas of business that Gerry wants in the new system e.g. the company’s proposed environmental specialist division, is not analysed by Inez. She also does not analyse sufficiently the Safety System. At times she does not seem to be listening to Gerry. Gerry talks about the environmental area more than once, but she does not to pick up on it sufficiently. However, to be fair to Inez, at the end of the interview she does say that in their next meeting she intended to look at some of the tasks in more detail.  Did Inez elicit the information you would expect from a first interview?

Yes in terms of identifying the main functionality of the information system. She has enough information for most of the Process Modelling. Inez can draw most of the Context Diagram, Functional Decomposition Diagram and Systems

...Dilapidated, overcrowded public schools in the Philippines By Dante Pastrana  20 June 2014 Public schools across the Philippines began a new school year this month. An estimated 21 million children are enrolled in a public school system that, after decades of deliberate starving of funds by successive governments, is nothing less than atrocious. Newspapers reported that in Metro Manila 82 percent of the 764 public schools in the metropolis were congested, and were conducting classes in two shifts. The first shift starts as early as 6 a.m. and the second ends as late as six in the evening. There were reported to be as many as 80 students in each classroom. School authorities resorted to cutting classes in half and cramming the excess students into “science labs, libraries, corridors and even the principal’s office.” In Tacloban city, devastated last November by Typhoon Haiyan, a local newspaper reported that in one school, hundreds of children endured the searing heat, reaching 30 degrees Celsius, in three temporary classrooms with walls of corrugated iron sheets. “It is pitiful to see them packed like sardines,” the Sun Daily quoted Gina Villamor, who was waiting for her two children, aged 6 and 10. Typhoon Haiyan damaged 3,100 schools, with 20,000 classrooms needing to be either rebuilt or repaired. An estimated 1.4 million children are affected. Seven months after the typhoon, however, only 35 percent of classrooms, that were totally damaged, and 53 percent of those that were...

Annual Report Analysis

...CONTE N T S CHAI R M A N ’ S LETTE R DEAR SH AREH OL DERS FY2012 has been a good year for your Company. The key financial results were: ¥ Consolidated revenues increased by 30% to Rs. 96.7 billion in FY2012. ¥ Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA)1 rose by 55% to Rs. 25.4 billion. ¥ Profit after Tax (PAT)2 grew by 45% to Rs. 15.3 billion. ¥ Diluted Earnings per Share (EPS) increased from Rs. 64.9 in FY2011 to Rs. 83.8 in FY2012. I am particularly delighted by four developments. First, your Company succeeded in yet another blockbuster generic launch in the USA under 180days marketing exclusivity. Dr. Reddy’s launched olanzapine 20 mg tablets, the generic version of the brand Zyprexa®. Olanzapine is used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This product has added around USD 100 million to your Company’s revenues for FY2012. Second, the biosimilars business continues along its impressive growth path. In my letter to you last year, I had discussed the critical importance of developing biosimilars in the years to come. I am happy to note that your Company’s global biosimilars business grew by 45% over last year and recorded sales of USD 26 million. Today, the biosimilars portfolio of Dr. Reddy’s constitutes (i) filgrastim, (ii) peg-filgrastim, (iii) rituximab and (iv) darbepoetin alfa, which have commercial presence in 13 countries among emerging markets. These are helping to treat patients suffering from cancer — and at prices that...
