...Introduction Many doctors keep their records an old-fashioned way, through paper records. Paper records need a large storage space. As his patients add up, his storage should also add up. Retrieving paper records require some time. Doctor’s assistant goes through their paper records. Medical record system will make retrieving and updating records much easier and simpler. This will also lessen the storage space in the clinic. With seconds, records can be retrieved. Doctor will just enter the number of the patient and then his records will be shown on screen. This system will really become handy for medical records keeping. Background of the Study Over the years, the manual record system of clinics had presented a drawback. One of the problem met is lost or misplaced files by either the staff or the client themselves. Another difficulty is the retrieval of past files and the crude record system that takes up a vast section of the office just for record keeping. Since, almost everything had undergone changes for technological advancement through the aids of computers, manual-filing system would definitely be spared from such break. A computerized patient monitoring as well as space maximizing. Achievement of these needs through this present monitoring would surely establish the health institution’s efficiency. Statement of the Problem The problems encountered on existing system are the following: 1. Retrieving of data takes some time. The assistant...

...Overview: In this experiment I was determining the amount of diphosphorus pentoxide in a sample of fertilizer, then comparing my results to what the fertilizer label states. By doing this experiment I was looking at quality control, and determining if the fertilizer has accurately distributed chemicals needed for healthy plant growth. There are three main Chemicals needed for strong, healthy plants; nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Nitrogen is important for the plant’s growth, and for the growth of the plant’s leaves, while potassium and phosphorus help the roots grow stronger, and healthier, along with helping the plant produce flowers. When looking at the box of fertilizer you will find a set of numbers, such as, 15-30-15, or 10-20-10. These numbers represent the percentage of that particular chemical in the fertilizer. So in the case of...

Tel: þ 618-92667390; Fax: þ 618-92663076; E-mail: pervang@cbs.curtin.edu.au Abstract This paper critically analyses the nature and state of decision support systems (DSS) research. To provide context for the analysis, a history of DSS is presented which focuses on the evolution of a number of sub-groupings of research and practice: personal DSS, group support systems, negotiation support systems, intelligent DSS, knowledge management-based DSS, executive information systems/business intelligence, and data warehousing. To understand the state of DSS research an empirical investigation of published DSS research is presented. This investigation is based on the detailed analysis of 1,020 DSS articles published in 14 major journals from 1990 to 2003. The analysis found that DSS publication has been falling steadily since its peak in 1994 and the current publication rate is at early 1990s levels. Other findings include that personal DSS and group support systems dominate research activity and data warehousing is the least published type of DSS. The journal DSS is the major publishing outlet; US ‘Other’ journals...

...Lab Report Name: Fathima Nuska Date: 16/05/2013 Title: Urine Analysis Introduction: The urinary system, which is an essential organ system in the body, is most essential for maintaining homeostatic balance in the body. The kidneys being the major organs belonging to the system, involves in removal of metabolic waste products and other foreign materials from the body, thus homeostasis is maintained. The process of filtration and regulation of ions and water, which are the basics of urine formation, starts in the nephrons: the functional units of the kidney. Explaining in brief, blood flows from the afferent arteriole to the glomerulus. Here plasma is filtrated through a process called glomerular filtration. The filtrate formed, flows to the proximal convoluted tubule from the glomerulus, then proceeds to flow onto the loop of Henley, and then to the distal convoluted tubule. Finally, the filtrate flows into the collecting duct. It has to be taken into note that with the flow of filtrate through the tubules, the filtrate composition changes due to tubular secretion and reabsorption, finally results in the fluid called, ‘urine’. Urine is defined as a sterile, fluid by-product of metabolic reactions in the body. Since urination is the primary method for excreting toxins, chemicals and drugs from the body, studying a urine sample can provide information about the state and functioning of the body. Analysing the composition and other factors of urine is referred to...

...recognition. Many researchers have found that the KNN algorithm accomplishes very good performance in their experiments on different data sets. The traditional KNN text classification algorithm has three limitations: (i) calculation complexity due to the usage of all the training samples for classification, (ii) the performance is solely dependent on the training set, and (iii) there is no weight difference between samples. To overcome these limitations, an improved version of KNN is proposed in this paper. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is combined with KNN to improve its classification performance. Instead of considering all the training samples and taking k-neighbors, the GA is employed to take k-neighbors straightaway and then calculate the distance to classify the test samples. Before classification, initially the reduced feature set is received from a novel method based on Rough set theory hybrid with Bee Colony Optimization (BCO) as we have discussed in our earlier work. The performance is compared with the traditional KNN, CART and SVM classifiers. Keywords: k-Nearest Neighbor, Genetic Algorithm, Support Vector Machine, Rough Set. training samples must be calculated. When the number of training samples is less, the KNN classifier is no longer optimal, but if the training set contains a huge number of...

...point detection technique to test the purity of the recrystallized sample. In chemistry, recrystallization is the purification technique for solid compounds, using an appropriate solvent, to coax out either the desire compound or the impurities. The name “recrystallization” is given because of the crystals often formed when the experiment is successfully performed.2,3 Recrystallization works based on the difference in solubility when the temperature changes. Therefore, picking the solvent to dissolve the compound is a very tricky and important part. For single-solvent recrystallization, which is performed in this experiment, the chosen solvent should not dissolve the sample while cold, so that the crystal can be formed when the temperature drops. However, the solvent should dissolve the sample completely while hot in order to release all the impurity crystals being trapped up in the solid form of the desired compound. Furthermore, the impurities should have higher solubility than the desired compound in that chosen solvent, so that all the impurities would remain in the solution while recrystallization takes place.2,3 In case no single solvent can be found, a system of two solvents can also be used for recrystallization. Generally speaking, in this solvent pair, one of them can completely dissolve the sample while the other one cannot dissolve the sample at all. The primary requirement when making this system is that the two chosen solvents have to be completely miscible, in other...

...1940’s, it was unusually large that it required to be operated by more than one people. They consumed a lot of energy, and they were also acutely slow. However, in comparison with nowadays, computers are remarkably fast in processing speed, not large and are operable by one person. Others can even fit in pockets which are hand held like tablets and even laptop or notebooks which are portable. Desktop computers: as the name suggests, this is a type of computer that is designed to be used on a flat surface of a table or a desk. Desktop computers are made up of separate peripherals or devices. The main components of the desktop computers being the system unit, which is usually rectangular in shape. It is usually placed on or underneath a desk. Other peripherals include, the monitor, mouse, and keyboard, and cables that connect them to the system unit. Laptop computers: these are computers which are light in weight, are mobile and can be taken along to anywhere since they have in built batteries. Laptop computers also known as notebook are small in size since they combine the screen, the keyboard, and the mouse in one case. They are unique in they are folded after use. Tablets: these personal computers that combine the characteristics of a handheld computers and laptops. Tablets use a pen to write or draw pictures on the screen. Some even have keyboards that are folded and pivoted under the screen. Since you can write on its screen, it also possible to covert personal handwriting into...

...Abstract This paper entitled Stardust is about none other than the famous Stardust mission by NASA. This paper will go in depth about how the mission was conceived and who was the primary funder of the mission. After the introduction of the mission stardust we go in depth of how the spacecraft was designed. What material was used for the frame of the spacecraft and why that certain material was used instead of anything else. This paper will also go over how the spacecraft communicated back to earth when it was thousands of miles away. Another interesting thing that will be explained is how the spacecraft was powered. What was or were the technologies implemented on the spacecraft to make it active for so long. Like anything else that is unmanned and automated, there has to have been a computer on board and this paper will go through the details of what computer was on board and why that particular computer was chosen if possible. Since this was a spacecraft with a set trajectory, what else controlled it to make it stay in place? That’s when this paper talks about the attitude control and propulsion systems onboard the stardust spacecraft. The last thing that will talked about in the spacecraft design section of this paper is the scientific instruments the stardust spacecraft carried in order to fulfill its primary objective. Its primary objective was to do a fly by and collect samples from preset meteor targets. The next major body of this paper is the actual mission profile...
