...Take A Stand: War Samuel A. Olivas Grand Canyon University: CWV-301 June 13, 2015 Where would America be if brave men and women didn’t sacrifice themselves in the greatest wars known to date? This is a huge question a lot of people do not ask themselves. A debate resides today whether war is right or wrong. I take my stand for war. Freedom seems to have lost its importance among the citizens of the United States. Many individuals or groups look at war and only see death, but its what they don’t see that makes the biggest impact and that’s the purpose. A man or woman who has served their country gets ready for battle not for their family, but for the cause. The purpose of this paper is written to inform about major wars taken place in the bible, history, and currently. Firstly, I will explain how War in the bible relates to war in the past. Secondly, I will explain the history of two wars and their significance. Lastly, I will explain the war we currently are in and why it’s crucial that we never give up. A man just laid down his life for you, would you for someone else? WAR: THE BIBLE The Bible has many wars through the Old Testament; we must take a closer look at Egypt vs. Israel. In Egypt Pharaoh had the people of Israel under his control. The Israelites were beaten, whipped, and killed. They were put to work on the Egyptian city. This bondage was held for years until a man named Moses stepped in for God. Moses states in Exodus 5:1, “ let his people go”. In Egypt...

...Jennay Gonzales UNV-103 9/21/11 Take a Stand: Elderly Driving There are many drivers on the road today which are half made up of the elderly population. There comes a time in every elder’s life when they aren’t quite competent enough to drive themselves around anymore. It’s a time of question of their own independence and their keys. Some pose a hazard for not only themselves on the road, but also pose a hazard for the other pedestrians and drivers on the road as well. There are many who still can drive safely and still have their competencies about them, but determining if an elder should be driving can be hard to judge just by the family. The elder should be judged by not only their family but should also be overseen by a licensed individual like a doctor or a judge. There are just as many capable elderly drivers as there aren’t. Most of the elder population suffers from slight dementia and problems with eye sight. They also sometimes lose their sense of direction and can get lost easily. Having an elder driving who isn’t quit all there doesn’t thrill anyone, but letting them behind the wheel of a car can be dangerous. If they have issues with their sight or sense of direction it can pose a real hazard for the other drivers on the road and it can cause a hazard for them. The last thing anyone needs is to have their elder lost or hurt in a car accident that could have been avoided by just simply taking some time and sitting and evaluating if that elder should still...

...Shenice Rolle English 120/16 Dr. Craig Smith Informal Text- based Argumentative Essay Let’s Take a Stand Nicholas D. Kristoff stated, “In the nineteenth century, the central moral challenge was slavery. In the twentieth century, it was the battle against totalitarianism. We believe that in this century the paramount moral challenge will be the struggle for gender equality around the world.” Traditionally, men have always been known as the superior gender, while women were seen as inferior. One would think that since time has progressed and ways of thinking has evolved, the world would now be a place where men and women have equal rights; however, this is not the case. While in some countries women have been granted the same opportunities as men, there are still countries where women have little or no rights at all. Some of these countries include Afghanistan, Iraq, Nepal, Sudan and Pakistan. Consequently, women who reside in these countries run the risk of being punished or even killed, if they were to stand up for their rights. A wise author once said “Great leaders are often defined not by their beliefs, but by how they react when those beliefs are tested to the limit.” Despite the fact that she lived in Pakistan, Malala Yousafzai demonstrated her bravery by fearlessly petitioning for women’s rights and girl’s education. Yousafzai is a sixteen year old girl who was shot by the Taliban for being an advocate for girl’s education. Yousafzai survived the shooting and continues...

They were made fun of and hurt but still got through.Atticus should take a stand because he has courage and he is kind. The first reason is Atticus has courage for standing up for Tom Robinson even though he will be made fun of. “ In Maycomb grown men stood outside in the front yard for only two reasons death and politics. Jem and I went to the front door, But Atticus called Go back in the house”(Lee 193). This shows that Atticus stood up to Heck Tate and men who wanted to take Tom back to the county jail. Atticus also protected his kids. Atticus has reasons for taking up for Tom. “The main one is, if I didn’t I couldn’t hold up my head in town. I couldn’t represent this county in the legislature. I couldn’t even tell you or Jem not to do something again”(Lee 100). This shows Atticus took this case...

...Someone who takes on these actions is called an oppressor. In other words this person is called a bully. Elie Wiesel made the comment, “Take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” Even if the problem is someone else’s true faith should convict someone to do the right thing. “Take sides”, Wiesel said. Why should a person take sides if they aren’t involved with the issue? Did Jesus take our side even though our sinning wasn’t His issue? Yes. Jesus went so far with doing what He felt was right that He died. Taking sides makes a huge impact on any situation. Even for a simple vote. Whether or not the decision was for the victim or the oppressor a side is taken in the matter. If a side has not been taken then it automatically goes to the oppressor because a stand wasn’t taken for the victim. No matter how a person may feel or what has been done to them it doesn’t give them the right to bully or show “oppression” towards someone else. Although neutrality may keep down confusion or drama with someone who isn’t involved in the problem, it really causes more problems. By problems I mean making the...

...When is it right to take a stand? Many people have asked this question a lot over the last few decades, when are we supposed to take a stand? When is it right to get up and fight back? To understand this, we got to learn about the importance of making our own decisions and how it can affect our whole life. Although it is true that it is important for people to make their own choices in life. People are right to take a stand whenever they feel like they are ready to make a decision. In the text “Words Do Not Pay” by Chief Joseph it said, “I am tired of talk that comes to nothing. It makes my heart sick when I remember all the good words and all the broken promises. There has been too much talking by men who have no right to talk. Too many misrepresentations...

...During the time of the Vietnam War and Nixon administration the society was at a state of anger and unrest. John Lennon took a stand against the government and society by writing music and performing physical acts of protest. Immediately, he was faced with a deportation scandal, and many people were rallying for change on his behalf. His long-term impact is shown even to this day, through his song “Imagine” and other political songs that were screaming for someone to take a stand. As many already know, John Lennon was part of the ever-so popular group, the Beatles. During the time he spent with the group, his “voice” and his stance on the world was not shown much, as it was overpowered by Paul McCartney’s drippy and love-like lyrics. His...

...Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “ A man dies when he refuses to stand up for which is right.” His words, and beliefs impacted the entire world as he took a stand against racism. This encouraged thousands of people to take a stand in their own communities. This shows it is appropriate to take a stand when the rules have an adverse impact on your life. The people or community make up a large part of everyday life. When the community is negatively affected by the laws placed on them it calls for action. In Patrick Henry’s Speech to the Second Virginia Convention, he acknowledges that his people were threatened with war and slavery by the British. He stands against the British to save his country saying, “Should I keep back my opinions of such time...I should consider myself guilty of treason towards my country.” (Henry) In other words, If she...

...Malala Yousafzai and Alex Lin are teen activists. Malala wants all girls, throughout the world, to be allowed an education. While, Alex started a movement to reduce the waste of electronics and recycle e-waste. These two are great teen activists because they help make the world a better place. Malala shows intelligence and determination, while Alex shows perseverance and leadership. Teen activism is really important because these are teens that take a stand to what is right and getting rid of what is not right. Teen activism is very meaningful because teens are helping not only where they live but the whole world. It is important for Malala to take a stand because some people do not know what is happens in other parts of the world and she takes a stand for what needs to be done internationally. Something needs to be done in parts of the world where there is terrorism and where girls cannot go to school. Teen activists are important to not only the people they help, but they are important to the...

...People need to help another person’s life out, take action, take control of own life. People need to stand up for what’s right and to speak up for those who need a voice. Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech and the Victims of the Holocaust help my claim because both of these sources state that we should take action and try to speak up and make a difference. Anne Frank talks about how to stay positive in conflict, though the Frank family took action by going into hiding, she stays more positive doing something about it. As these works show, taking action, taking control of the conflict is the best way to respond to it, taking action is taking control of your life, your own future. Elie Wiesel gives a speech about how he survived of the Auschwitz...
