Scottsdale, Arizona versus Tallahassee, Florida

In general, people move to different cities throughout United States due to different circumstances, such as going to college, job transfer to family situations. This paper will compare and contrast the pros and cons between Scottsdale and Tallahassee, specifically, four broad categories: nightlife, climate, police presence, and beach access. Activities in a city or town make the city unique in its own way. First, the climate in Scottsdale, AZ is amazing during the peak time, which is in the summer. However, the summer won’t be too appealing for some people since it can get too hot, which causes people to stay indoors. Unlike Scottsdale, Tallahassee has all four seasons, and people enjoy the weather regardless if it’s raining or sunny than when compared to Scottsdale. Moreover, in Tallahassee, there are a lot of bugs that are present, which causes people to spray bug repellent in the summer time. Conversely, in Scottsdale, bugs are not a problem. Second, nightlife in Scottsdale is pretty significant, and people all around the Phoenix area come to enjoy the dance scene. Whether it’s hip hop, country to techno music, there are a wide variety of night clubs to participate in. On the contrary, the nightlife in Tallahassee is not as mainstream as Scottsdale. In Scottsdale, there are eleven clubs with restaurants/bars turning to a club after certain hours, which can push that number into the high 20’s. Whereas in Tallahassee, there are five clubs and their restaurants/bars do not turn into a nightclub after hours.
Third, the police visibility in Scottsdale is very alarming, mainly at night time. On the one hand, the rate for driving under the influence (DUI) in the Scottsdale Republic is greater than other crimes. Scottsdale police appear to emphasize on driver’s drinking under the influence as opposed to burglaries or shoplifting in Tallahassee. On the other hand, the police presence is significantly low in Tallahassee in comparison to Scottsdale police. Furthermore, colleges in Tallahassee have their own respectable police agencies that control crime and the police department handle more of burglaries and theft incidences than when compared to DUI’s in Arizona. Finally, the nearest beach for individuals living in Scottsdale would be Lake Havasu, or San Diego. In opposition, the beach is driving distance in Tallahassee. There are natural lakes in Tallahassee, whereas Scottsdale doesn’t have any because of the climate of Arizona.

In sum, the police visibility is low in Tallahassee because it may be due to not having enough officers in the city, which only covers 95 square miles, Whereas Scottsdale is 194 square miles which is bigger than Tallahassee Also in Tallahassee, the city’s budget and growth are limited, and it may be due to the strict regulations the government enforces. Whereas in Scottsdale, the city is continuously growing and the city government encourages small businesses to come to their city and unconventional clubs, such as strip bars.
The similarities between the cities are very few. The unemployment is about the same in both cities. The temperature for both cities are relatively similar because of the humid weather that is present during the summer months, whereas in Scottsdale, it is not humid and mainly dry.

Moving here to Scottsdale was a job transfer I choose, and a goal to finish college and move on with my future. I would like to accomplish these goals in the next few years. Finishing school will take me one stepper to my goal. To meet these goals, I will motivate myself to stay here a little longer, even though I miss Florida. My goal may not be an easy to achieve, but it is something worth doing, because good things in life are not easy.
