...An Analysis on the Effects of Group Performance Tasks to Grade 9 Students by Hanna Coleen G. Malayao Grade 10 - Diego Mojica St. Dominic College – Basic Education A (Draft) Research Paper submitted to Mr. Poccholo M. Rudio November 4, 2015 CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Introductory paragraphs A school or institution is built to provide learning and good education to students and prepare them for their future. Parents send their children in school to be knowledgeable on everything they see and do and enjoy life while learning. According to Albert Einstein, “Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.” It only means that education shouldn’t focus on teaching facts instead students should be learning while interacting with one another. Educating students is done by many ways, it may be by visual aids that will let the students view a clearer idea on the topic, it may also be by means of technology which is very popular nowadays especially to the present generation. But above all this, there’s this one way of educating students that would never get old, it is interacting students with other people by grouping them to work on a specific matter or task. This process would develop students to become sociable as they grew up and letting them share their opinion and ideas. It would help as well to engage and connect students with their skills and values while learning competently. Researcher reports that students learn best when they are actively involved...

...cognitive ability on performance Gerard Seijts Æ Dan Crim Published online: 18 September 2009 Ó Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2009 Abstract We tested the combined effects of goal type and cognitive ability on task performance using a moderately complex task. Business students (N = 105) worked on a 24 min class scheduling task. The results showed that participants with higher cognitive ability benefited more from the setting of a performance goal as opposed to a learning goal. The reverse pattern was true for participants with lower cognitive ability. Performance goals were more effective for participants with higher cognitive ability vis` a-vis those with lower cognitive ability. The correlation between goal commitment and performance was positive and significant as was the correlation between cognitive ability and performance. Keywords Learning goals Á Performance goals Á Cognitive ability Á Performance Introduction More than a thousand studies have shown the positive effect of goal setting on subsequent task performance (e.g., Latham 2007; Locke and Latham 2002). The most difficult goals produce the highest levels of effort and performance (e.g., Locke and Latham 2002). Moderators or boundary conditions for goal setting include ability, feedback, task complexity, goal commitment and situational constraints (e.g., Locke and Latham 1990, 2002). Pinder (1984) concluded that ‘‘goal setting theory has demonstrated more scientific validity to date than any other G. Seijts...

...learners guided by the strategy even when the teacher is not present. This helps them be able to form a mental model of understanding. Woolley (2010) shares that most children are capable of constructing the mental model of story events needed to comprehend what they have read. The three phases of reading (before reading, during reading and after reading) are all important to building comprehension. Thorkildsen, Nolen, and Fournier, J. (1994) asked children to choose the motivational practice that worked best for them. With significance substantially above chance, students selected the fairest practice to be teachers encouraging a task focus. How much effect does the proper administration of task focused motivation have on student reading comprehension ability? Theory/Theories or Conceptual Framework(s) Related to the Area of Inquiry: This study is influenced by the schema, transactional and constructivist theories described by Gill (2008). The schema theory explains how prior knowledge is used by the reader to make sense of new information. Transactional theory says that each reader will arrive at a different meaning of what they read because each reader brings different experiences to their reading efforts. Some readers read to take away information and some read for the experience of reading. Constructivist theory of learning is based on the idea...

...Doctoral Program Center for Research and Evaluation The Alan Shawn Feinstein Graduate School Johnson & Wales University 1 Paper presented at the 42nd annual meeting of the New England Educational Research Organization, April, 2010, Portsmouth, NH. 2 Introduction Music is a significant part of our lives. People listen to music on the radio at home and in their car; they watch music videos on television or hand held technology; they buy CDs or download music; and they attend concerts. People also hear music in stores, restaurants, sporting events, and doctors’ offices (Schellenberg, Peretz, & Vieillard, 2008). Music is very important to many adolescents and they spend a considerable amount of their time listening to music. One study with N = 2,465 adolescents ages 13 and 14 found that participants listened to music for an average of 2.45 hours per day (North, Hargreaves, & O’Neill, 2000). Music has become a personal accompaniment in many teenagers’ lives because of the availability and popularity of personal music listening devices. In 2009, Jaffray released the results from the 18th semi-annual survey, “taking stock with teens.” The team of researchers surveyed approximately N = 1,200 students, with an average age of 16.3, in 12 cities across the United States and received an additional N = 10,000 online responses. The results showed that 92% of teenagers reported owning a personal music player. As a result of the popularity of these players, music has become individualized...
