Tattoos and Work Etiquette Workplace etiquette can be defined as; a code that governs the expectations of social behavior in a workplace, in a group or a society. Work etiquette tells the individual how to behave when dealing with situations in a working environment however trivial the situation is. (http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/business-etiquette.html) Workplace etiquette is the code of comduct for all employees in a work place to abide by. Etiquette is the golden rule describing the manner in which employees should represent themselves and the company at all times. From the way you dress, to the way you speak, to the way you represent the company overall deals with etiquette. Workplace etiquette also deals with the physical appearance of its employees; with things such as tattoos in the workplace, hair color, following company procedures to avoid mistakes, all the way down to the protocol to handling mistakes when they are made and steps to take to avoid these same mistakes in the future.
Tattoos have become a common trend amongst the up and coming generations. When deciding to get a tattoo it is always important to choose a place that can easily be covered by clothing. It can be estimated that nearly 25% of the U.S population have some sort of tattoo and almost 50% of that count will eventually want their ink memory removed. Laser tattoo removal techniques have been introduced to removed unwanted body designs, and can eliminate tattoos with minimal side effects. The process of removal via laser uses a high intensity beam to remove pigment within the tattoo. Black ink tattoos are said to be the easiest removed because the pigment absorbs all wavelengths; compared to color ink tattoos. Tattoo removal techniques must be tailored to each individual case in attempts to develop the proper procedure to avoid scarring. In the past, tattoos could be removed by a wide variety of methods but the scars that were left were often more unsightly than the tattoo itself. On the contrary patients who have previously undergone removal treatment; and who have tattoos that have not been effectively removed by other treatments or through home remedies may respond well to laser therapy providing the prior treatments did not result in excessive scarring. Depending on the size and color of the individual tattoo the number of removal treatments will vary. Treatment with the laser also varies depending on size, color, age, and the type of tattoo that is being removed. The color of the patient's skin, as well as the depth to which the tattoo pigment extends, will also affect the removal technique.
When working in a relaxed environment employees tend to become comfortable. It is always a plus to feel like you can be yourself at work, but being comfortable can easily allow for a person to make common etiquette mistakes. For Example when working in an atmosphere where you deal with a lot of paperwork daily, one can easily fall behind with filing and cleaning their area. Leaving a mess and having a cluttered desk can easily cause friction and tension in the workplace; when an employee forgets that he or she is not the only one utilizing a space. When your shift has ended always remember your etiquette for shift change. Keep in mind to return all supplies to their respectful places, do not leave a mess for the next coworker, and remember to always leave everything in working condition. By performing these simple tasks it will make it easier for the person following you to get right to work.

Seeing the Beauty Underneath the Ink and Metal

...body modification are tattoos and body piercings (Gay & Whittington, 2002. p. 8). There are many reasons behind why someone would decide to tattoo or pierce their body, along with those reasons there are some regrets, and due to those regrets, there are a few different removal techniques. One of the most common reasons for getting a tattoo is for group identity (Horne, Knox, Zusman, Zusman, 2007 p. 3). There are men and women who have served or are currently serving in our nation’s military that have tattoos that stand for courage, patriotism, defiance of death, and longing for family and loved ones left behind (“Tattoos in the USA,” 2011). It is stated that our current culture can credit the Navy sailors for introducing the art of tattooing to the military due to their coming home from faraway lands with permanent reminders of the places they had been (Van Geete, 2009, para. 1). According to Staff Sgt. Stephanie van Geete, “You could not throw a rock into a military formation without hitting a soldier with at least one tattoo.” Many sailors in the past would get a picture of a submarine ship (“Military tattoos,” 2012). There are sailors past and present that have hula girls wearing grass skirts or pin up style girls wearing a Navy uniform. Some sailors may even have a mermaid, or an anchor due to their nautical symbolism (“Military tattoos,” 2012). Those in the Marines may receive a tattoo of a bulldog, the unofficial mascot of the Marines, or a tattoo of a military issued...

Polemic About Tattooes

...The polemic about tattoos I was wondering why tattoos are a controversial point in our society! There are people against and people that really like tattoos, but who is right? Should I think it is a good or a bad thing? Maybe for the tattooists the art involves is worth the pain and sacrifice of being tattooed. For the religious, it is a sin to sacrifice one’s body with so meaningless purpose. Now I don’t think there are excuses to justify so drastic a way of art, but analyzing the points of view I will try to clarify some questions I still have about this body art such as the reason people have tattoos, “When did tattooing start?”, the dangers involved in this procedure, the removal of a tattoo and society’s reaction to tattooed persons. Thinking it is weird to have one’s body penetrated many times by a needle to make only a drawing I do not think is worth it. So, why do people have tattoos? Why it is a common place nowadays? Probably because people see that the tattoo is a way of expression, but the real motivation to acquire it varies among groups and cultures. It marks thoughts, opinions, memories…Some persons obtains tattoos as a means of asserting their personal identity or sexual orientation. Tattoos may be a testament to feelings of love, they have been associated with rites of passage and identification with groups. Nowadays tattoos is used for some cosmetic medical procedures and permanent make-up applications, according to the National Institute...

Russian Prison Tattoos

...comes traditions, ideas, and beliefs that are their own. Tattoos play an important role in many cultures. Every culture has its own methods of tattooing, the types of tattoos they receive, and what the tattoos symbolize. It is clear that people from one culture will view tattoos from another culture differently than tattoos worn within their own culture. When comparing tattoos between Russian prison inmates and everyday North American tattoos, several similarities and differences can be seen. North American and Russian prison tattoos are similar in many ways in regards to what motivates them to obtain them. One major similarity is that tattooing is a means of signifying identity. Inmates living in the Russian prison system as well as North Americans receive tattoos in order to be identified as a member of a certain group. Russian prison inmates can have coded tattoo designs such as cathedrals, stars, eyes, and skulls that serve as symbols, each with their own meaning, which nonmembers do not understand. These coded tattoos are used to form commitments and are a way to bond with people within the group. This reason also serves as a motivation for people in North America. Another similarity when comparing these two cultures is that tattoos serve as memorials or represent a specific, important event in their life. For example, in North America, a person may obtain a tattoo of a lost loved one to honor their memory. If a tattoo of a rose is seen on a prison inmate this indicates that...

For most people, when they decide to get a tattoo; they don’t often know the whole process or how to even begin. Without having the right knowledge, they usually end up finding the nearest tattoo shop and settling for what that shop is limited to offer. Most often getting their tattoo, they end up regretting it without having the right information or direction towards what they wanted. This goes into a result in wasting money on the tattoo(s) and then getting it removed. With these types of situation, Ink-Express can be a whole new door of opportunity and view of what tattoos are and with the right knowledge, people will be able to get what they truly want. There are different ways to research on tattoos such as using “Google”, going from shop to shop, going on their websites, Facebook and even Instagram. Tattoo

...Tattoos: Art, History and the Changing Complexion The pain. The beauty. Sitting in the tattoo artist’s chair I wonder what am I doing? This is a lifelong commitment. People have been getting tattoos throughout history for many reasons: social, religious and cultural. Nowadays more people have tattoos and the percentage of people with tattoos is continuing to rise. Even though some people view it as the "devil's art", the changing culture and acceptance of tattoos is becoming more mainstream and viewed as an expression of individuality. Some people claim that tattoos have been around since 12000 B.C. Generally the earliest known tattoos are from the Iceman, a mummy found on what is now the Italian-Austrian border. The Iceman has been carbon dated as over 5000 years old. Prior to this discovery, Egyptian mummies were thought to show the earliest signs of tattoos. These tattoos usually were found on female mummies. The markings on the female represented their status and relation to the ruler or pharaohs of the time. As the Egyptian empire spread so did the influence of tattooing on other cultures and societies. Egyptians spread the art of tattoos throughout the world and different cultures adapted tattooing. Greeks used tattooing to mark rankings of spies, slaves and criminals. These markings were usually done on the face. Facial tattoos were also used in Japan on criminals. They were tattooed on the forehead with a design to signify a dog after three...
