...This novel portrays this theme very well from the setting to the character’s thoughts. The novel takes place in a very quiet town, with ,the main character, Taylor. Taylor’s home isn’t really a “home” at all; it is full of depressing things and many deplorable problems. Throughout the story, Taylor deals with many issues but stays strong through the chaos. One important lesson readers can learn from Laurel Lindt’s The SkiBoarder is whatever happens, you can’t give up. One example of this was when Taylor fights with her mom and won’t accept that she has Schizophrenia. This scene shows how Taylor...

...INTRODUCTION Our modern society has long been governed by classic liberal notions advocated by thinkers such as John Stuart Mill and John Locke, Emmanuel Kant. A traditional conception of equality is generally prioritized in their work, outlining a highly formal approach premised on uniform treatment, colour-blindness and an emphasis on the Rule of Law. However, in the contemporary context of today, such an ideological hope tends to play the role of the ignorant fool, who disregards the complexity of our society. We are in need of a system that opens its eyes, stops hiding behind a “veil of ignorance” (Sandel, 1998:24) and adopts a more flexible approach. The Bouchard – Taylor Commission demonstrates exactly this notion. This essay will argue in favour of one of the major claims made by Gerard Bouchard & Charles Taylor, that reasonable accommodation, in essence a more substantive equality perspective is a necessary, if not mandatory approach that a multicultural society is in dire need of adopting, clarifying and deeply enforcing. I will discuss the logic and rational that underpins harmonization measures by exploring how social norms & ideologies have played an especially important role is systemic discrimination, then, how Canadian Law and legal institutions have played a role in constructing and maintaining racial stereotypes, and then, how the media plays an especially vital role in further denouncing minority groups. I will then provide some recommendations as to how to go about...

...General Taylor had many strengths and weaknesses. Most of his strengths led him to become victorious during the war. Here are few of General Taylor Strengths. Taylor's strength lies in his war zone nearness. He is more effective when he is under pressure, he was an amazing strategist in battling the fight inside his visual perception. Driving from the front, sitting upright in the stirrups where every one of his troops could see him, he enlivened his fighters to have strength under flame. Amid a significant period at the skirmish of Buena Vista, when a key staff officer detailed the American line was going into disrepair, Taylor reacted by saying "I know it, however the volunteers don't have any acquaintance with it. Leave them be and see what they do" (n.d., 2016). In 1846, General Zachary Taylor assembled a stronghold on the Rio Grande inverse the Mexican town of Matamoros. In April, the Mexicans countered by sending a constrain of around 1600 cavalrymen over the Rio Grande where, on April 25, they overpowered a compel of 60 dragoons under U.S. Chief S. B. Thornton. Mexican powers at Matamoros consistently...

...In this battle analysis, I will analyze the Mexican-American war, discuss when the battle occurred, where it took place, the principle adversaries, review the settings of the battle operationally, and discuss the different areas of operation, such as the weather and terrain. I will also describe and analyze the American and Mexican armies in leadership, size and composition, technology, logistical systems, command, control and communications, intelligence, tactical doctrine and morale, the battle chronologically, followed by the significance of the battle, addressing the effects of the war and how lessons learned from this war affect the way our military operates today. So first, lets start by discussing the Mexican-American war. During April 25, 1846 to February 2, 1848 the Mexican American War occurred. This conflict happened between the Centralist Republic or Mexico and the Unite States. The war consisted of four campaigns as follows, the Texas, California, Pacific Coast and Mexico campaigns. President James K. Polk, who was elected in 1844, believed the United States had a “manifest destiny” to spread across the continent to the Pacific Ocean (Frazier, 1998). At first, the United States declined to incorporate Texas into the union, because northern political interests were against the addition of a new slave state. The Mexican government encouraged border raids and warnings that if any attempt to annex Texas it would lead to a war. As time went by Polk had his eyes on the...

...Reading, Pennsylvania was a little girl with big hopes and dreams. Taylor Swift was a girl who spent most of her childhood singing and writing songs. At the age of nine Taylor turned her attention to musical theatre and performed in Berks Youth Theatre Academy productions of Grease and Annie. She traveled regularly to Broadway, New York for vocal and acting lessons. However after a few years of auditioning in New York and not getting anything she became interested in country music. At the age of twelve, Swift was shown by a computer repairman how to play three chords on a guitar, inspiring her to write her first song “Lucky You.” Taylor said “People haven’t always been there for me but music always has.” At the age of fourteen Taylor moved to Nashville and was offered a record deal with RCA records. Swift was ready at the age of fifteen to release an album with her own materials but the company wanted to wait until she was eighteen but she knew she was ready to launch her career with her own material, so she left that record company. At a café in Nashville, Swift caught the attention of Scott Borchetta, a DreamWorks records executive who was preparing to form his own independent record label, Big Machine records. Taylor was one of his new labels first signings. Since then she has written over 200 songs which all written about her true experience and feelings. In 2006 she released her first album called “Taylor Swift.” She received positive reviews from the music critics. And by...

Simpson’s Rule: Simpson’s method rule is to approximate ∫_a^b▒〖f(x)dx,use〗 in the method we use the parabolas to calculate the value, S = ∆x/3(y_0+4y_1+2y_2+4y_3+..+2y_(n-2)+4y_(n-1)+y_n) The Y’s are the value of f at the partition points x_0=a,〖 x〗_1=a+∆x, x_2=a+2 ∆x, …… , x_(n-1)= a+(n-1)∆x, 〖 x〗_n=b Always the number n is even, and ∆x= ((b-a))/n Definition of Natural Logarithm: To find the function, we will use the definition of the Natural logarithm which is the function given by lnx= ∫_1^x▒〖1/x〗 dx Moreover, before we use the Simpson’s rule we will calculate the n value for all the natural log of the following numbers: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9, and 2. To find n value for all functions, we will use the error estimates in the Simpson’s Rule: It states that if f^((4)) is the continuous and M is any upper bound for the value of |f^((4)) | on [a, b], then the error E_s in the Simpson’s Rule approximation o the integral of f from a to b for n steps satisfies the inequality, the formula is |E_s |≤(M 〖(b-a)〗^5)/(180 n^4 ) Let’s find the n value, calculate the n value for all the natural log of the following numbers: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9, and 2 Functions N value ln1= ∫_1^1▒〖1/x〗 dx 0 ln〖1.1〗= ∫_1^1.1▒〖1/x〗 dx...

...employees, which is detrimental to the organization. What is redundancy and downsizing ACAS: ‘British industry requires constant review of products , methods of work and the application of new technology. The ability to remain competitiveness in the worlds markets depends on this. It is inevitable, however, that the redeployment of labour and redundancies will sometimes be necessary. A poorly thought out approach to change can result in a level of uncertainty which damages company performance and, should redundancies be unavoidable, may lead to financial and emotional costs to the individuals affected’ (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service, 2009, Redundancy Handling: Advisory Booklet 12. London) People Resourcing – Steven Taylor ‘In the uk the term redundancy is defined by law as a situation, in which, for economic reasons, there is no longer a need for the job in question to be carried out in the place where it is currently carried out’ (Page 456) employment rights act 1996 – redundancy only occurs when a dismissal arises for one of the following reasons * Cease of the business * Cease of this business * Requirements for particular work to be carried...

...MAT220 119. Explain how to solve an exponential equation when both sides can be written as a power of the same base. When an exponential equation has both sides of the equation as the same base one needs to rewrite the equation in the form of bM=bN. For instance, 24x-3=8. To make this the same base we need to make 8 a base of two by writing it as 2^3. Then we have 24x-3=23. Then we get rid of the base and get 4x-3=3. Finally we solve for x. 4x-3=3 4x=6 x=23 120. Explain how to solve an exponential equation when both sides cannot be written as a power of the same base. Use 3x = 140 in your explanation. To solve this equation one needs to use a natural logarithm or ln. First take the ln of both sides, ln 3x= ln 140 Then using bx= x ln b, move the variable to the front, x ln 3 = ln 140 Solve for x, x= ln3ln140= 1.0986122887/4.9416424226 = 0.22231723680404. 121. Explain the differences between solving log31x - 12 = 4 and log31x - 12 = log3 4. When solving log31x - 12 = 4 one needs to write it in the form of bc=M. To do this we do the following; logbM=c means bc=M. 1) log31x - 12 = 4 2) 34=x-12 3) 81=x-12 4) x=93 In the case of log31x - 12 = log3 4, since the log is the same on both sides of the equation the will be omitted. The new equation would be; 1x-12=4. Then solve as normal. Add 12 to 4 to get 16, leaving 1x, which is just x and you have x=16. 122. In many states, a 17% risk of a car accident...

...the study of mathematics during the course. The theory part that includes Taylor series as well as its coverage on complex functionality. In this exploration I surveyed on the theorems associated with analytic functions as well as its functions. This has helped me widen my knowledge and mathematical skills on complex numbers, calcus and functions as topics studied during the course. I have always to kept correct justification on the theories and have used required mathematical models and correct interpretation in the results that I got in the theory processing. Analytic functions has a very wider application on Analytic modulated system whereas there is a general theory of analytic modulation system and they are developed in the transmitted signal σ(t) = Re {eiwctf(z(t)}.Due to this noticeable physical application in life, it motivated me to write a this maths exploration. In mathematics, an analytic function could be simply defined as a function that is locally given by a convergent power series. There exist two parts namely real analytic functions and complex analytic functions, functioning differently. These functions are infinitely differentiable, But as said above functions of each type are infinitely differentiable, having the complex analytic functions exhibiting properties that generally do not hold for real analytic functions. A function is said to be analytic if and only if its Taylor series about x0 converges to the function for every x0 in its domain. ...

Introduction I will be researching and reviewing the department store Macy’s. They have been in the news a lot lately, reporting over 40 store closings and being down 5% in the marketplace. Macy’s has attributed their decline in sales to greater online competition arising, like Amazon and EBay. They’ve stated that there has been a large shift to online operations and away from the traditional mall locations. (Isidore, 2015) This past winter Macy’s sales were down 5.2% with the quarter being its third declining sales quarter. Other problems are said to be a shift away from spending on apparel and housing goods, a drop in international tourism, increasing competition, and a lethargic economy. Can a once department store powerhouse recover, and keep up with the ever-changing technological age or will they become the shadows of online retailers like Amazon? Macy’s plan to come out of the slump...

It provides good information about television use in general which I can use as part of the introduction. The eBook states that television can be both good and bad. Also covered in this reference are some figures regarding television use as well as the amount of violence shown on television. I can use that information in the body of my assigned section of the group paper. Greenfield, R. H. (2012). Don't Just Sit There: Sitting, TV Viewing, and Mortality. Integrative Medicine Alert, 15(8), 91-93 I find this article to be a suitable reference for my part of the group project. Watching television takes time away from doing exercise. What this article talks about is the important of regular physical activity and that just sitting there watching television does not promote good health. Also one key point that this article states is that sitting or television viewing appears to reduce population-based life expectancy in the United States. I can include that information in my part of the project. McCARTHY, L. (2013). Take Back Family Time!. Working Mother, 72. This article will be a reference for my paper. It talks about family time and how that has been impacted by television use. The article states that family time has been impacted negatively since children watch a lot more versus spending time with their parents. In fact...

...Taylor was just like any typical teenager, playing sports, serving within her church/community, and hanging out with her friends. She was in soccer training with the hopes of making it to the junior national team. Suddenly, around 2008/2009, Taylor’s asthma was getting out of control and we were not sure why. As her symptoms became worse, and then allergic type symptoms arise leaving many baffled as to what was occurring in her body. After many doctors, test, and hospital admissions, Taylor was finally diagnosed with a rare disease known as Mast Cell Activation Disorder. It took about 6 years, and receiving this diagnosis was the answer to all the puzzle pieces no one could place together years prior. Mast Cell is a disorder in which the mast cells in the body produce to many mast cells or when these cells do not function properly. There are different forms of mast cell diseases, but the form Taylor suffers from is Mast Cell Activation Disorder/Syndrome (MCAD/MCAS). In Taylor’s case, the mast cells in her body do not function properly. To receive the diagnosis of MCAD/MCAS, Taylor and her mother had to travel to Minnesota to be seen by the top physician who is well versed in this disease. Receiving the diagnosis was step one in getting Taylor’s symptoms under control....
