From birth children will need to undergo different checks at different times of their lives, of example, the progress check at age 2 (can be anywhere between the ages of 24 - 36 months) this gives a breakdown of how the child is developing in the three prime areas; personal, social and emotional, physical, and communication and language. These checks are in place so that the parents and health care professionals are able to clearly see at what rate the child is developing and where they may be developing slower and where they may be developing faster. Depending on how these checks go the child may be referred to a specialist to see how their development can be supported further, the specialist then may suggest that the child has teaching and support staff with them when they are learning. Targeted intervention is in place so that the child does not miss out on the support that they need, if the child is not benefitting from this support or is not making the expected progress then intervention should happen as soon as possible.
If given the correct intervention children will find that they feel more motivated and they will feel more confident within themselves which will help them with their overall development.
